Well, thanks to some birthday wishes from the people I know, I am now the proud owner of a new iPod! This model, as Apple totes merrily on its site, is capable of playing Videos, along with music, and photos, and is probably the coolest thing this side of the original iMac.
Though the kinks aren't entirely worked out, I'm heartily enjoying the ability to now fit all of my cd collection on it (and consequently beginning to think of putting all of my old cd's into booklets to minimize clutter). My original 5Gig iPod, and it's 2003 replacement, are still kicking, but as I had mentioned earlier, I was running out of room. Plus I thought it would be cool to be able to tote my pictures around, as most models introduced in the past year were cabable of doing. It's now about half filled with music (that's 30 gig worth), and for once, I'm getting complete albums and scores and stuff I didn't even remember I owned (I found a Marc Anthony song. What was that doing in there?).
The thrilling thing about the new iPod is it's ability to store and playback video. So far, there is no official software for doing this, but some clever individuals have created some software that will allow you to take your owned video and rip it onto a format the new iPod reads. I have put a couple of my own home video productions on there, as well as some backups of videos I own and have found it to be an amazingly handy resource. Tell you why next time.
Thanks to Rich, Lacey, Adam, Annie, Jen and her folks for helping me get my new toy without spending anything on it! |
