Here's a true story about how ease of use came in extra handy in a pinch:
Rich contacted us to say that he'd been having extreme pains and was about to check himself into a hospital (for Kidney Stones). He'd left a message behind to me to contact his roommates to let them know what was going on, since one of them had seen him in despair that morning.
Trouble is... I couldn't find their numbers anywhere. I had their older cell numbers, their older email address, their older contact info. But no way of getting in touch with them.
I suddenly remembered where Adam worked and decided to try looking him up on the Net. No luck, as it's a big company. Then I remembered that Mac OS X Tiger, the new operating system that was released a few weeks ago and was on my new Mac, comes with Spotlight, a new, powerful Search engine built into the system. Spotlight is supposed to find information from anywhere on your hard drive.
I typed in the name of Adam's job... and BINGO! In two seconds, Spotlight was showing me an EMAIL that contained that company name in it. When I selected it, it pulled up the email and indeed, not only was the email address I needed there, but it had everybody's email address, and I was able to contact his roommates and alert them of the problem.
Rich is doing better, still in pain, out of the hospital. Let's hope he gets through this one soon! |
