Nothin' But the Tooth

Personally, I think they invented dental procedures like Root Canal just to remind you NOT to ever have to go through anything like that again. It's kind of a mind trick. While my Dentist is painless, his office is friendly, and the service superb, it still doesn't mask the fact that this stuff hurts!

I've always been pretty good about dental pain itself. The actuall drilling and manuevering doesn't bother me as much as the sudden psychological need to have to breathe and swallow. And when your mouth is being held wide open by a contraption you can't see, and you can't talk and you can't swallow and you can't breathe- it can get a little scary. He said I did fine, up until the last few minutes. I was squirming a little toward the end, but not by what he was doing, but what my mind was thinking was a feeling of helplessness. My tongue had inadvertently gotten a bit of the novacaine and felt numb, then dry, then you realize you can't breathe... need I go one?
Sufficed to say that aside from a bit of discomfort, it went well.

I just don't ever want to have to go through that again!
