| Parking is Such Street Sorrow | | Date Created: Jan 24, 2005, 10:01 PM |
Just to give you an idea of the snowfall - this is kind of what my car looked like after the snowstorm. I didn't take a photo of my actual car, since my camera decided to be annoying (needed batteries). But while I was walking about getting some air and trying to determine what to do, I saw this sight and is kind of what greeted me when I finally made it into Queens.
Thankfully,Rich had time off. I'd called ahead warned him I might need some help, but actually, I got my car out of it's white burial on my own (thankfully, Hil had given me a special pair of snow gloves that helped me simply slide the stuff off the car with my hands!). Rich had to back up on a street to help me get out - the street cleaning machines had created a mound that made getting out of the street somewhat impossible. Thankfully, he has an SUV, and was able to crush the snow out of the way.
Though I spent most of today indoors working on my own projects, when I did go out for groceries, I had to dig the car out yet again. There is an aspect to that which is kind of fun. Particularly when it's light and moveable snow. The kind you can just brush aside, no matter how deep. Not sure why, particularly since it was rather cold out, but this snow was kind of soft. There is a slight joy in taking a shovel and chopping it into pieces and then lifting and chucking it over onto a pile. Not that I want to make a habit out of it or anything. JB says that this is how it always looks back home where she came from (Upstate NY). From October through May. Always. Everyday. She thinks NY'ers are wimps for panicking at the least inch of snow. Maybe she's right. But I certainly don't always enjoy shoveling it. Particularly when you have a place to be, Or go. It looks like it's public transit for me for the next few days.
(The subject line is an old pun spun by an old workmate of mine)
