D1 Drift Racing comes to England - Stacey in attendance!
The 2nd of october was a very very important day
for all UK fans of (D1) Drift Racing. This class of motorsport differs from
virtually all others in that it doesn't matter who comes first, as the winner is
judged on how stylish their run was! Drift Racing started in Japan and spread
to the US where it now has a healthy following. The problem is that although
there are pockets of interest around the UK, the official series - D1 had never
visited our shores... until this month when a round of the D1GP was staged at
Silverstone (comically called "The Silverstone Raceway" by the American
commentator!) in Northamptonshire.
I
duly packed my Camera, Sarnies and Money (to buy official merchandise of
course!) and left for Silverstone with friends James Dorling and Mark Constable.
We had good run up, in unofficial convoy with what seemed like every other
Japanese car in the UK I might add
;)
Well, what a fantastic day I had,
somehow I managed to find myself in the Pits with all the cars attending, being
that close to Ken Nomura's Blitz Skyline was probably my highlight of the year!
There was lots of talk of an official D1 UK series next year so things are
looking up for the UK drift scene.
If
you are interested in Drift Racing, you would do a lot worse than to visit the official D1
website.
