Titans News from the February 22 weekend

Titans Bantam A Black

The Titans Bantam A Black traveled to PA this weekend for games against The Glaciers and The Phantoms of the DVHL. On Saturday the Titans dropped a tough game to the Glaciers in a exciting fast paced up and down game 4-3. Cody Reilly started in the nets and was on his game. The action came early and often but Cody was on! After the Glaciers took control in the early stages of the period it was the Titans who drew first blood. Charlie Morton pumped in the first goal at 11:26 on an assist from Sean Mulkeen. The Glaciers answered back at 7:12 to tie the game but a powerplay goal by Jonathon Weinstein at 5:54 helped regained the lead for a 2-1 score to end the first. The Glaciers fast paced transition game came into play in the second period when they repeatedly broke in on Cody with odd man rushes and a couple break-aways. Cody came up with some big stops but The Glaciers finally broke through "MonkeyBoy" at 2:14 for the tying goal to end the second period 2! -2. Ti! mmy Behan scored the go ahead goal at 6:08 of the third after the two teams exchanged many good scoring chances. Unfortunately the 3-2 lead didn't hold up when The Glaciers struck again at 5:20 on a break-away chance Cody kicked away but the rebound shot found the net. The 3-3 tie was broke when the Glaciers again broke in on a break-away that Cody had no chance at for the 4-3 lead. Reilly was pulled from the nets with 1:10 left for a extra attacker but the hard working Titan team couldn't get it past the Glacier netminder in an exciting finish. Although defeated, Reilly had a awesome game. Reilly ended the day stopping 18 of the 22 shots he faced, and by stopping the many odd man rushes he helped keep the boys in in game.

Sunday the Titans traveled to Aston, PA for a meeting against the Delco Phantoms.  The Titans seemed to have a little extra jump in their game after their tough 4-3 loss Saturday and were hungry for a victory.  The Titans have not lost back to back games all season and this weekend would be no different.  Will Conte netted the games first goal at 12:19 and the Titans never looked back.  After killing back to back 5 on 3 penalties, it was clear that netminder "Weeds" and his defense were not going to give anything away.  The Titans held their 1-0 lead despite playing most of the period at a man disadvantage due to penalty troubles.  Although the Phantoms scored at 8:24 in the second, this period belonged to the Titans as they netted three.  Billy Regan, Joe Miller, and Sean Mulkeen poured it on and crushed any hopes the Phantoms had at skating to a victory.  Thomas Wiedmann was on his game and turned away e! veryth! ing thrown at him until a breakaway goal beat him on the high stick side for the lone Phantom goal.  Brian Walsh decided to join in the scoring party at 13:37 of the third to put the icing on the cake.  Coach Gibby called the dogs off after the Walsh goal and played a defensive trap game the rest of the way.  The Phantoms were able to chip in a goal past Weeds at 2:58 but the game and victory was well decided by then.  After stopping 28 of 30 shots, Weeds was asked by teammates if he ate his "Wheaties" that morning?

Titans News from the January 25 weekend

Titans Bantam A Black

The Titan A Bantam Black picked-up where they left off before their unsuccessful run at the DC tournament championship by winning both weekend games. Falling one game short of the championship, the Runner-up status did not sit well with these proud boys feeling that banner was theirs. The Titans came back home, refocused their frustration, and played two solid games. Saturday night the NJ Freeze came to Wall Arena and ran into a Titan team determined to settle on nothing less than victory! The Titan defense and goalie Thomas Wiedmann gave away nothing in the first period despite playing a short bench with only ten skaters. After the scoreless first, Timmy Behan got the Titans on the board first off a nice feed from Sabs to take the 1-0 lead. "Weeds" and the Titan "D" made the one goal stand up throughout the second, which included numerous power play opportunities for the Freeze and a 5 on 3 for two full minutes ending the second 1-0. Weed's good fortune and shut-out chance finally ran out at 11:29 of the third when killing a powerplay. A errant pass from behind the net deflected off the back of his leg and into the net for the 1-1 tie. Weeds was snake-bitten once again on the powerplay kill when the Freeze found the open man in front and zipped it past the goalie for the 2-1 score. This clearly put the fire back into the Titans offence. Noticeably winded by playing a short bench, the boys fought threw it as they shifted into a new gear and went to work. Weeds and the Titan "D" took care of business in their end and would never let the Freeze have another sniff at their goal. At 4:29 Billy Regan took the puck at center ice and bullrushed it up the gut of the Freeze and rifled it past the goalie for the 2-2 tie. At this point the Titans were not going to settle for a tie and let Weeds' awesome night, with 25 saves on net, go for nothing. Timmy Behan logging tons of ice time found some stored energy with Billy Regan and cashed in the game winner at 35 seconds left for the come from behind 3-2 victory! A game that every parent felt proud to be associated with this group of players.

The Titans Traveled to Aspen Ice to play the NJ Renegades on Sunday and picked it up a notch. The Renegades were no match for the faster and better skilled Titans. Billy Regan started the scoring at 7:04 in the first and the Titans never looked back. Titans Jonathan Weinstein and Charlie Morton followed shortly afterwards and the rout was on. Thomas Wiedmann, starting between the pipes, continued to show the good form we saw in Saturdays victory by keeping the Renegades off the board ending the first 3-0. The second period saw Billy Regan bury his second goal and third in two days for the 4-0 lead. "Weeds" was replaced at 7:19 to share time in nets with the Monkey Boy (Cody). Cody didn't have much time to settle into the game when the Renegades went onto the powerplay minutes after entering the game. Reilly stopped the first and second shot, but a loose re-bound found its way over a sprawled out goalie for a 4-1 score. Not giving the Renegades any hope of a comeback, Charlie Morton answered right back with his second goal at 3:00 and regained the four goal cushion. The Renegades set up a  nice give and go pass at 1:27 that Codeman never had a chance at to end the second 5-2. Charlie completed his hattrick at 11:49 of the third and crushed the spirit of the Renegades for good. With the 6-2 lead and victory at hand, the Titans went into defensive mode. Cody and his "D" gave the shell shocked Renegades no hope for another goal and skated off the ice with the 6-2 win. Hats Off Awesome weekend for all.

Titans News from January 12 weekend

Titans Bantam A Black

The NJ Titans went into this weekends games verses the Penguins and Senators looking to build momentum to carry into this weekends tournament in Virginia. They did just that by winning back to back games in impressive fashion playing two totally different games. Saturday The Titans traveled to Ice Rock Arena and played a wild wide open game vs the Penguins and Sunday at Wall played a more conservative solid game.

After dropping the prior two close games to the Titans the Penguins were definitely up for Saturdays matchup. The Penguins came out flying and victimized starting goalie Cody Reilly with two powerplay goals to open up a two goal lead. The Titans responded in the second period and refused to not let this game get away from them. The Titans charged back with three unanswered goals. Charlie Morton started the scoring in the second with his signature slapshot, followed by Will Conte's powerplay goal and Timmy Behan's tally to end the exciting second period with a 3-2 lead. The Penguins opened the scoring in the third by netting their third powerplay goal to tie the game 3-3. Dax Conrad playing a great defensive game chipped in some offense to regain the lead at 4-3.

The Titans gave the lead back when they gave up their fourth powerplay goal of the game to the relentless

Penguins for the 4-4 tie. Not letting up, the Titans Johnathan Weinstein tipped in goal at 8:52 that proved to be the backbreaker and game winner. A busy Reilly and the defense settled in afterward and shut out the Penguins the rest of the way with Cody stopping 20 0f 24 shots! Dax Conrad put the game out of reach when he netted his second goal of the game for the 6-4 victory. Pat, "don't call me Bam Bam" Bruno saw some action around the net and is now officially 2-0 in his battles in the crease, Ha Ha Ha.

Sundays game against the Grundy Senators was a complete opposite game from Saturdays wild high scoring game. The Titans went back to basics with solid defense and opportunistic scoring for this 4-2 victory. The first period belonged to a hot Charlie Morton as he scored two goals and third in two days! Thomas Wiedmann starting in nets keep the Senators at bay with some nifty saves for the 2-0 lead ending the first. The second period turned into special teams play for both teams when a total of six penalties were called. The Titans penalty killing unit which gave up four goals Saturday, clamped down and shut down the Senators 5 on 3 opportunity and two other 5 on 4's. Will Conte scored his second powerplay goal of the weekend to produce a Titan 3-0 lead to end the second period. Both teams seemed to play smarter in the third, keep out of the box, and got back to 5 on 5 hockey. The Senators took advantage of a miscue at the blueline and raced ! in for! a breakaway goal which eluded "Weeds" and ended his shutout bid at 10:38. Charlie Morton's big weekend continued when he completed his hat trick at 9:13 for the 4-1 lead! The game was all tucked away when the Senators caught the Titan "D" by surprise and snuck in a goal at 1:08 of the third for the 4-2 finale. Good luck in VA Titans! Congrats to coach Gibby when he announced he's going to be adding a new member to "his" team! It's good to see Gibbys not your typical Irishman!!!! Duh

Titans News from December 29 weekend

Titans Bantam B Black

The Bantam B Black team went 2-0 this weekend to extend their winning streak to 7 games and climb over the .500 winning percentage for the first time this year.  Concentrating on goaltending and solid defense,  the team beat the Penguins 3-2 on Saturday.  Matt Allen started in goal and set the pace with some early saves.  Jason Kirch opened the scoring for the Titans and Cameron Kelly added one in the second period in his first game back from a month long illness.   Tied entering the third,  the winner was scored by Henry O'Hern after a rink long rush by defenseman Chris White.

On Sunday in Hamilton,  the team continued it's fine play with a 2-1 win over the Chiefs.  After falling behind 1-0,  the team shut the door and allowed only 13 shots for the game.  Defenceman Ryan O'Rourke, Dillon Fecci and Jay Meyers were all over the puck,  shutting down any scoring opportunities the Chiefs could muster.  Goals were provided by Jason Kirch and Tyler Place. Goalie Troy Klahre also posted his third half game shutout in a row.

With the wins the Titan B Black team now sports a 11-10-1 record for the season.

Way to go guys!!!

Titans News from December 15 weekend

Titans Bantam A Black

Hats off!", to Billy Regan and Titans Bantam A Black. Billy Reagan recorded the first hat trick of our season in our dominating victory over The NJ Renegades. Not only did the offense impress, but back from a scary neck injury last week, Cody Reilly started  between the pipes and his always awesome defense held the Renegades scoreless for the 4-0 shutout! This was the same team we beat early in the season in tournament play. That was an evenly played close up and down game that we eventually won in a 3-1 nail biter. This just reminds us what a great job our coaching staff is doing when we see the difference between these two completely played games against this opponent. It shows a definite sign of development of our team and players. Billy Regan started the scoring at 12:01 in the first period off a perfect deflection off Brian Walsh's slap shot from the point for the 1-0 lead. The defense keep The Renegades at bay and only!  ! surrendered five shots at Reilly to end the first with the lead.  The second period saw the Titans hold the puck and cycle in the Renegades end for most of period with Reilly and the defense keeping the puck out of our zone. The Titans received a power play at 5:41 and Sean Mulkeen jumped on the chance and scored from an assist from Conrad Quinn to up the score to 2-0. Regan scored his second goal at 3:12 on a breakaway pass from Conte to end the second 3-0. The third period was much like the second with the Titans dominating both the offense and defensive zones giving up only one scoring chance to the Renegades all period. Regan scored his third goal of the game to complete his hat trick on the power play at 5:02 from Morton to end the scoring at 4-0 for the Titan victory. The annual Christmas party was held immediately after the game and once again proved to be memorable. Thanks again to our accommodating hosts the Conte's for their hospitali! ty. Th! e only thing not memorable was coach Gibbys' knack for lea rning team parents' names. Once again referring to his cheat sheet only to still flub most names. It was nice to see Kevin Behan's "serious" side for a change when he decided to "officiate" the party!

The Titans continued their winning ways on Sunday afternoon with a blue collar effort against the Junior Flyers Youth Bantam B team. Nothing fancy, just hard work, timely scoring, and great defense won this match. The Titans seemed to carry the momentum from Saturday night and roll it into this game. Dax Conrad was rewarded for his great defensive play over the last month when he scored in the first period on an assist from Mulkeen for the 1-0 lead. The second period started 1-0 and ended 1-0 thanks to awesome defense, penalty killing, and a great save on a point blank shot by starting goalie Thomas Wiedmann. With the game turning into close race to the wire, Timmy Behan dashed the Flyers hope when he rifled a shot into the corner of the net off a great feed from Sabs for the 2-0 lead at 13:59 of the third. Sensing blood the Titans scored 35 seconds later on a power play goal by Billy Regan, his forth in two days, from Conte and Morton to make it 3-0. The Titans defense! did e! verything they could to help get Wiedmann the shutout, but a deflection off a faceoff at 5:55 ended the teams bid for consecutive shutouts. With the score 3-1 and time running down, the Flyers pulled their goalie on a late power play for a 6 on 4 advantage. Once again the defense and Wiedmann held tight and came away with a well earned victory. This weekend was a great finish before the holiday break. We'll pick up where we left off on 12/30 at Toms River. Is there a new hat in Gibbys' future with Christmas coming up? Stay tuned.

Titans News from Thanksgiving Weekend

Squirt B goes to Hershey - by Mike Nordstrom

The Squirt B team played a total of three games at the Hershey Tournament which included one on Friday and two on Saturday.  The first game was played at the Giant Center and the boys loved playing in the BIG arena.  Louie Kuka scored the lone goal for the team which also happened to be his first goal of the season, well earned I might add.  Tommy Heiser started as goalie and Timmy Kravchenko finished off the game, both played a great game.  The second and third games were played at the Twin Ponds West arena.  Timmy Kravchenko played goalie for the second game and made some big saves.  Wesley White was able to put the puck in the back of the net scoring the only goal for the team.  Chris Lamb was the net minder for the third game and also made some good saves.  The Squirt B team would like to welcome Matt Goeller to the team.  He joined us during the tournament and fit right in - great job.  All of the coaches who assisted with the team over the weekend were pleased with the effort shown by the team and we would like to thank them as well.  The boys have come a long way already and the rest of the season should be exciting.

Titans News for Weekend of November 10-11

Jr. Titans Bantam B Red visits West Point

On Nov. 10 the Bantam B Red team went to visit  the United States Military Academy at West Point and play on the Army hockey arena. It was a beautiful day for the visit allowing the boys to tour the campus after their game.  Coach Haberbusch, who is the assistant coach for Army, gave the boys a tour of the locker room and campus.  The boys were amazed at the facilities that the hockey players had and wanted to know when they might expect a lounge like Army's.  Coach then explained to them what was expected from the cadets, whether they played hockey or not.  The boys learned about the Academy's history and were very impressed with some of the people who graduated from West Point.  After the tour it was off to dinner for the team in the town of Highlands.  The food, people and atmosphere were wonderful and the boys were well taken care of.  Next on the list was the Army versus AIC game.  The boys watched as Army easily beat AIC, showing what great hockey players they are.  The Army players were amazing to watch and the arena was packed with fans.  It was fun to watch the excitement from both the players and fans.  After the game the boys were invited to the locker room where they were able to meet the Army team and get autographs.  The players then invited the boys to eat with them there in the locker room.  The Bantam B Red wants to thank Randy Walker for all his help setting this up as this was a day they will always remember.

PeeWee A Recap

2-2 Ties us in Pretzel knots. Good Pretzel Knots

In a game where we dominated play from the start, used the body well, and had great goaltending support, we should have come home winners today.  The Titans came out hard and checked, passed, cycled, and looked like a very good hockey team.  The scoring started when Neil took a pass from Adam who had taken a pass from Andrew, and scored with a shot from the corner, just like his goal in the game at Old York Road, putting the Titans up 1-0.  It would stay that way until late in the Second, when the Titans took a penalty.  They made a number of good kills today, but this one was better.  The defense of the Blazers shot the puck at the legs of Austin T. who blocked it (and hit a few people good today).  As a result, the puck bounced out of the D zone and Rich F. fought through 2 Blazers for the puck.

They literally hung on his back until he finally broke through and then beat the goalie high, right side for a shorthanded goal and a 2-0 Titan lead with 4:01 to go in the 2nd.   We almost converted on the next sequence as the puck was broken out of the zone by good work behind the goal by Tyler who got the puck up to Andrew and out to Adam.  Adam was dragged down and fell in pain before he could get off a shot.  The ref ruled a clean check and we were disrupted.

AJ continued his magic, stopping all 20 shots he faced, flashing glove and stick and being particularly good about driving the puck acgway to the low corners instead of in front.  He also had great defensive support. Until….the odd man rush.  With just 3:45 left our defense got caught pressing up on one side.  The blazers broke out 3-1.  AJ went up for it, and covered a lot of net… but bang, it hit the back of the net 2-1.

The next shift, Rich had another break-away. He moved alone in front, but the goalie poked away an almost certain goal.  Shortly after on the other side of the ice they got off a shot from the point.  AJ stopped it, but the crashing Blazers pushed our defenders into him.  He was standing, but could not get to the puck, which was laying there in the crease. A Blazer poked it home. 2-2 tie.  A mad scramble to win the game by both teams led to an exciting finish, but left us a little short of satisfaction, as most ties do. But there was a remedy to the empty feeling in our stomachs.

Billy’s Dad left the rink after dropping him off.  I had noticed the snack bar had the frozen little, damp pretzels circling under the heat lamp and commented on how sad it was that in an area of great pretzels they had resorted to the frozen food section.  Just then, Billy’s Dad came through the door with large paper bags full of 50 hot, just out of the oven fresh pretzels from the Philly Soft Pretzel Factory.  Well finished on the outside with that golden brown color, the right amount of salt, not too heavy, not chewy at all. He had enough for the parents, players, coaches and a few left over.  There’s a true team player and hockey hero.

Titans beat Titans but not without a fight

Posted by titanpeeweea under Game Summaries

The Younger PeeWees had Coach Haviland’s team’s number for the first period and a half yesterday.  The game started with Coach Gibby’s team playing strong position hockey.  An early shift of Tim G., Andrew D. and  Neil H. produced a goal when Neil took a strong shot that rebounded out in front. The defenseman in front swung at it to clear just as Andrew was crashing hard at the net.  It hit his shin and bounced right in.  1-0 lead.  Chris D.  was stellar stopping all 9 first period shots, so we held the lead through the first.  We played the body early as well, and it paid off.  We were in their end as much as they were in ours, and the disruption kept their offense at bay.  They seemed a little nervous that they were being outplayed, and they toughened up for the second period.

Two deflections, one by Ian B., and one by Josh K. which were impossible to stop put them up 2-1 after 2.  We had a nice play by Jared Y. to create a nice scoring opportunity up front, but the posts, their goalie (Mike C.), and a rolling puck kept us down a goal.  Mike then stopped 2 point blank rushes by Ryan P., one to the glove side and one to the stick, that hit the top butt end.  Without those stops and another chance with Billy in front, the score may have been much different.

In our Defensive zone, Chris was lights out stopping shot after shot.  The bigger boys were putting the body to us better in the third than we had to them earlier.  They finally poked home 2 more, which deflated the younger squad.  Coach called time out with just under 10 minutes to play.  The troops were settled down, they regrouped and did not quit.  Chris was solid, and we played the rest of the way in a 1-1 tie, with Dave N. crashing one home to cap off the day on an up note.

An excellent effort. While they will get a little ribbing at practice, they belong on the same ice with these guys and know they will keep getting better.

Bantam A Black Recap

The weekend games started with a defensive showdown and ended on an offensive flurry. Saturday, defense was on tap against a pesky Phantom team that never let down. Who ever coined the phrase, "the best offense is a good defense", was right on the mark for this particular game. Charlie Morton's short handed goal at the 23.5 mark of the 1st period was all the Titans needed for the victory. Hats off to the defense who never let the Phantoms gain any momentum and kept the traffic to a minimum in front of Cody Reilly who posted our first shutout of the season! Reilly was once again sharp and turned away all 17 shots faced! When there was a rebound the defense moved people away from the net and helped earn a hard fought goose egg. The Titans showed off some muscle in the first period when Billy Regan and Bam-Bam Bruno introduced themselves to a couple Phantoms who decided to push after the whistle. Teammates sticking up for each other is what this is all ! about.! The game settled down into a goalie duel afterward and no other scuffles occurred ....Nice game boys!

Sunday saw a complete opposite game unfold with lots of scoring and special teams play. After a scoreless first period with the Titans carrying the play and Thomas Wiedmann minding the net, things got going in the second. The Blazers opened up a 2-0 lead in a 1:35 span at the 11:56 mark of the second that seemed to put a charge into our offense. Jonathan Weinstein cut the lead in half with a PP goal at 7:36 and it seemed we were on our way. Charlie Morton scored on an assist by Maguire to tie at 3:39 and 1:20 later Timmy Behan scored the go ahead goal off a beautiful mid-ice pass from Sean Mulkeen. The lead didn't hold for long when the Blazers whipped a shot over the shoulder of goalie Thomas Wiedmann. The second ended a 3-3 tie. The Blazers carried the momentum over into the third and scored off a weird deflection off a skate in front the net at 12:00 to take the lead 4-3. The Titans answered back at 10:! 43 to ! tie the score on a hard working play by Pat Bruno. A screened Thomas Wiedmann couldn't track down a shot from the left circle at 7:10 and the Blazers once again led. Some questionable calls by the refs kept the boys

off balance and found ourselves in a 5 on 3 penalty kill. A comeback was put on hold when the Blazers scored on the PP at 5:56 and we were still a man down for another 2 minutes. Give credit to the boys for not giving up though as Charlie Morton scored with Wiedmann pulled for an extra attacker at 23 seconds to end the scoring 6-5. This was one that got away from us.
