Throughout the years of studying furniture design and sculpture, Tomoko Taira has experienced with design to create sculptural furniture forms, that embody a sense of excitement and fun, playing along with comfort and security. For Tomoko arriving in Tasmania from Tokyo, the Tasmanian wildness was like another world of fantasy. The combined cultural shock and excitement of discovering this new found natural environment are always at the root of Tomoko's design.

After graduating University of Tasmania in 2005 with a first class honours degree in the
Bachelor of Fine Arts, Tomoko pursued art education further and successfully completed Master of Studio Art in sculpture at Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney in 2006.

She is now back to her home and re-experiencing the beauty of Japanese culture, while producing and exhibiting limted number of work.
