The Blues has a long history steeped in the toil of humankind, telling stories of the powers of nature, the lure of evil, the seduction of love, the fire of passion, the ache of desire, the ineffable experiences of life. The Delta Blues originated in the deep south, and this raspy, back of the throat style found its home in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Clarksdale has become, once again, a mecca for musicians from all styles and backgrounds. The list of legendary Blues artists who have recorded in Clarksdale now includes San Francisco native Chris Cotton.
Chris Cotton has made himself part of the Blues culture. Having just split up with his band “The Blue Eyed Devils”, Chris decided to fulfill a lifelong ambition to record his music, his style, his words, with old Blues friends, in the tradition, pattern, and manner of his heroes. His style is heart felt, compassionate and deep. He has brought the skills he gathered and honed over the years to Clarksdale, Mississippi; back home to the heart of the Blues by telling his stories and sharing in the historical traditions of Muddy Waters, Son House, and Robert Johnson.
With the help of James Mathus former front man of the Squirell Nut Zippers and featuring a special appearance by Big Jack Johnson, Chris manages to produce a Blues sound that hasn't been heard in 50 years. Featuring rare interview oportunities with 'Philadelphia' Jerrry Ricks, and Morgan Freeman. |
