New York City
Eleni and Tina go to the big city.
We took the train from Fredericksburg and arrived
in NYC around 2:45 in the afternoon. We found our hotel (Hotel 41 near Times
Square) and our room is about half the size of Pete's room at home. But it's
very nice and the guys in the lobby are tres chic, but very
nice.
We walked around, visited the BIG
Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center, had dinner at a nice Italian restaurant
(our favorite Indian restaurant was closed for the holiday). Then we went back
to Times Square and saw Elf!
We saw this movie poster
there!

NYC: Day Two
Tina and Eleni conquer the Big Apple
We got up early and were walking up 6th Avenue
towards Rockefeller Center by 6:30 a.m. to see the Today Show! We think we got
on camera, but won't know until we get home and check the Tivo. When it started
sprinkling, we left and went to a little deli for a delicious
breakfast.After a short rest, we
headed down on the subway to the World Trade Center site. We went to the
downtown TKTS location and waited in line for half-price tickets to Little Shop
of Horrors. We met some nice people in line (of course!).
We
went to the fancy McDonalds on Broadway down there and enjoyed our value meals
in the Orchid Room, while being accompanied by the song stylings of the piano
player. Then we wandered around the financial district, where we sat outside the
New York Stock Exchange and watched a Univision reporter making a report.
After a little more wandering we went
to the Goldman Sachs offices at 85 Broad Street and met my friend Jean Lantz on
the 29th floor. Then we went with her to her neighborhood (Tribeca), had
manicures, shopped on Canal Street and had dinner in her apartment with her
boyfriend and her cat (Sally).
The play was great and we couldn't
wait to get back to our room after such a long day. When we got there, we found
that the maid had put Eleni's stuffed animal, Bruce, in a place of honor on the
bed! (Note the walls on either side of the bed--that's how small our room
is!).

NYC - Day Three
We slept in (after getting up before dawn yesterday)
and finally made it out of the hotel by around 10:00 or so and looked for a
place to eat breakfast. We stopped at Lindy's on Times Square (famous
cheesecake!) and when we saw that 2 scrambled eggs cost $9.95 (the David
Letterman breakfast, which is coffee, a danish and a glass a juice is $13.95!)
we got up and left. We found a nice little deli and had a great (cheap)
breakfast there.We walked down to
Macy's and took advantage of some winter sales and then hopped on the subway to
go up to 56th and Madison to the Sony Wonder Lab museum.
While walking up Madison Avenue, we
saw Michael Richards (TV's Kramer!). We had fun at the Sony museum and then
walked on 55th St. towards the Soup Kitchen International (the Soup Nazi), but
stopped for sushi first at a cute little second-floor Japanese sushi bar. When
we got to the Soup Nazi, there was a long line and we realized that it was a
tour bus group with Kenny Kramer (the REAL Kramer!), who gives a Seinfeld's Tour
of NYC. We got our mulagatawny soup for Pete and Doug and some seafood bisque
for our train ride. So we saw the fake Kramer and the real Kramer in one
day!We took the subway back to the
hotel, got our stuff and headed for Penn Station for the ride home. Doug and
Pete picked us up at Union Station and we were glad to be home!
