The Website for ANTHEM (1985-200X)

Anthem started off as a Rush Tribute band in 1980's in rhode island
the first real appearence was at warwick veterns memorial high school , where we played a few of our tunes : "The Trees" , "Anthem" and "Xanadu" to a friendly reception of hardrock teenagers - even though the "moog" synth fell off key inbetween tunes , the crowd loved the quality that we pulled off - scott looked and sounded just like geddy lee , so ANTHEM was born

tim sullivan (guitars), scott king (bass, vocals) , hollis higgins (drums)

after that practiced our butts off to show off what we had - we could be seen back then in many clubs and rooms in and around RI , including The Living Room , G-FLags , American Cafe , Rhode island college, URI , faces , the Mad Hatter etc etc

ANTHEM (lineup #2)

members: scott king (bass, vocals), tim sullivan (guitars) , mike andrews (drums)

after playing and learning many facets of song-writing , we built up our courage , we decided to write, perform and record our own tunes and continue to explore how writing original music was far more rewarding than playing someone elses , even with how much attention we recieved by playing rush tunes like La Villa with the same integrity that rush themselves could produce , we'd still throw in rush tunes , but it was performed inbetween and around OUR OWN material

ANTHEM (lineup #3)

members: scott king (bass, vocals), tim sullivan (guitars) , jim ainsburg (drums)

over the years we tried very hard to separate ourselves from the "rush band" following we had , yet wanted those same fans to appreciate OUR music , as the years continue we decided it best to re-name to "Mental Jewelry" .
Mental Jewelry continued to do all the same stuff , just try to waltz away from the "stereotype" image we had as a rush tribute band - we managed quite well as an original band , but RI is the worse place to be an original band , so after a few decent out of state gigs and a promoter even trying to send us through canada , we did what we could to survive , but as members lives changed and developed the band kept struggling to make it to the next step
