Dear Parent:

Please feel free to go through the Expeditions with your child. It is important that you feel comfortable discussing the issues presented in the cases. They can provide a valuable opportunity for you to plug in to your student and help to shape his/her opinions and possibly ethics.

Please read through the teacher guide and the entry page “Why Can’t I Say That?” Enjoy the adventure, and have fun being a part of your child’s education.

Helping Points:

Time management: Do help the student stay on task. Each Expedition and assignments for them may take between 1 and 2 hours to do if the student works steadily. Students should not stray around the internet since all the sites are linked in the lessons. Each expedition should take one evening.

Discussion: Do discuss important issues with the student. If the issue is important to you, it will probably be important to the assignment. Do answer questions and be open to mature discussion of the issues with your student.

Assignments: Do proofread and evaluate your students work or replies if you are asked. Don't sweat the grammar. I'll take care of that.

Finally, studies show that students whose parents take an active interest in their student's learning do better in school. Get involved or stay involved with your high school student. Learning doesn't end with the 6th grade.
