Media Arts Course Description

Media Arts is an elective class open to RHS freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors. Media Arts is dedicated to the instruction of journalism. It produces the Roundup High School Panther Parade, the student body newspaper, and KLAW (Kids Looking At the World) a monthly television broadcast news program.

Through the production of the Panther Parade, students learn to use the following programs: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator. These powerful desktop publishing tools allow students to learn real world work skills used in the job market of today.

Students entering Media Arts should be able to demonstrate strong grammar, editing and writing skills, since all students are expected to learn strong print journalism skills in the research, writing and production of the Panther Parade. Candidates for entry into Media Arts should expect to conduct face to face interviews, practice proper telephone skills, make and keep appointments and demonstate strong teamwork by making and meeting all deadlines.

Students will have the opportunity to work with digital video and still cameras to create the newspaper as well as with one of the 11 computers in the Media Arts lab.

KLAW News made its first broadcasts in the 2002-03 school year. One goal for this year's staff is to write and produce seven fifteen minute news programs throughout the year.
