Born into a family of innovative blood, I was always surrounded by creative people continuously striving to differentiate themselves from the ordinary. Stemming from a very opinionated and dramatic, immigrant background, I grew up in an environment encouraging me to work hard and always strive for more in life.
Throughout my childhood, my family stressed education and knowledge expansion—in everything. So when I was two, my mother enrolled me in traditional ballet, tap, jazz, and modern pop dance lessons which I continued for sixteen years. Throughout all my daily strides, my family continuously helped me keep focused on my goals and push myself even further towards success. When I turned ten, my parents subjected me to piano lessons. Although it wasn't my cup of tea, it was instilled into me that those experiences would enable me to see the bigger picture.
Art has always played a huge part in my upbringing. On my mother's side, the classic arts were strongly emphasized with every family member being involved in the arts one way or another, including my grandfather who also holds a degree in Chemical Engineering. While on my father's side, I inherited the talent of organization and problem-solving in innovative ways and a fun-loving grandmother who is a passionate painter.
In grade school, I always participated in art contests and never missed the chance to take an art class. Even in high school, my creative passion was so strong that I opted out of a calculus class, which believe it or not I actually enjoyed, in order to take an advanced art class. In the end, by dedicating most of my time to perfecting my creative talents, I was able to participate in many scholarship contests and competitions, including receiving a score of 4 on an Advance Placement portfolio.
Leadership and stewardship was always looked upon as a person showing their worth to the world and using it to benefit others. Even in middle school, I made sure that I was meeting and interacting with new and inspiring people. In high school, I joined many extracurricular organizations that focused on pushing yourself towards success while helping others in their goals. For instance, I was actively involved in my school's Key Club chapter as well as being administratively involved in the Art Club. By having this environment to pull inspiration from, I was able to allow my experiences to add to my creative palette and to always keep my mind open and receptive to new concepts and ideas.
While in college, I continued this trend with my acceptance into the Freshmen Leadership Program at Sam Houston State University, where I was given the chance to truly get involved in the student body of the university. With the guidance of my mentor, Mr. Frank Parker, Dean of Student Services, I joined many other organizations on and off campus such as Circle K International (a community service organization) the Freshmen Residents On the Go (where I later became a sponsor and coordinator for) the Student Art Association, as well as giving time to the local Good Shepard Mission Food Bank and Kiwanis of Huntsville. All of these experiences gave my the tools to become a successful leader and problem solver for real world situations and deadlines.
