A thick negative & creatively complementary lighting, in anticipation of pushing the limits in post.

This spot was shot in a large interior store with flat fluorescent lighting. Production lighting complemented the environment, but with no intended drama. The challenge from the DP was to "sex it up a bit." Hey, It's a discount megastore . . . The lighting is necessarily bland and the images flat, so the temptation is to boost the color to create an illusion of richness - but it quickly turns garish. My solution was to focus more on contrast, taking a little liberty with the detail in the shadows.
This is my fourth project with this DP.

One set-up is an inky black, dramatically lit beauty shot. The next is well lit, nearly clinical set-up w/beautiful cool/warm color contrast.

Location shoot - Well appointed interior home. Set ups in living room, dining room, kitchen, craft room, interior patio. Designed to look more moodier than their usual spots. Strong exterior light sources.

Studio shoot - Set up to look like sunny, late afternoon in a lazy service repair office.

Studio shoot - Set up to look like warm afternoon kitchen. Two mothers, two babies in various places in this set; product shots.

"Health Club" - A selection of interior views of a health club on a sunny mid-day.
"Purse Snatcher" - A variety of exterior locations shot as the light was being lost, so a rather challenging job of matching to give the impression that all of the action had occured within a few minutes. Power window used on flatly lit, center-framed lady to give her a slightly brighter appearance to separate her from the background.
