Metals are important because they are what you use to build ships and weapons. Without them you will not have a fleet. You will still be able to build fighters and cargo pods.

All metals are mined from the core of planets by mineral mines. The metals are produced in the core by hyperimensional stress.

Mineral mines also yield ore which can be converted into metals by a smelter unit.

Metals can be transported from planet to planet inside of a ship in the cargo hold or in a construction pod. Construction pods can be placed inside of a ships cargo bay or launched from a planet bay a pod launch pad and travel without the aid of a ship

Special ships exist that have the power to turn supplies made in factories into metals. These ships are called alchemy ships and come with an alchemy device built in that can be turned on and off at will.
