Apple's Consumer Popularity Could Resonate With Corp Buyers

"NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Computer hardware companies may have more to worry about than just the consumer market when it comes to Apple Inc. (AAPL)."

"The popularity of Apple's Macintosh computers is morphing into increased interest from corporations - and not only from the graphic arts departments, where Apple products traditionally have been popular. Apple resellers and analysts say the Cupertino, Calif., computer and entertainment company could make in-roads in the enterprise market that has historically been dominated by Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ) and Dell Inc. (DELL).
"We've seen a big shift. Specifically, the Intel-based computers opened up areas we would have a lot of difficulty gaining access to as a Apple reseller," said John Nitto, president of Apple reseller RetroTech. "We are seeing more deployments of desktop machines and even servers with Intel's architecture."
Apple's partnership with Intel Corp. (INTC) to use that company's chips for its computers has clearly made the company's products more appealing to corporate buyers, who know and trust the Intel brand. In addition, industry watchers also credit the shift to virtualization and consumer demand for the growing corporate interest."
