Design, Build, Scale, & Manage Content — Gracefully

Portfolio of Web Sites

Jarret Yoshida, Inc.

I produced an original design along with XHTML templates for an interior designer's portfolio & information Web site.

Cape Cod Inn

This project involved a complete overhaul of the original design & structure for the site. I rewrote all content for the new site & reorganized the flow between pages in order to provide a fuller, more appealing view of the Inn's offerings, combined with more thoughtful connections to local attractions. In particular, I brought to the fore features of the on-site restaurant & bar, since it generates a significant part of the revenue mix & is patronized by Inn guests, area visitors, & local residents.

BDS Natural Products

I produced an original design along with two XHTML templates for a B2B company supplying raw materials and finished bulk products within the nutraceutical, food, & beverage industries. The templates include a home page with splash image and a standard page for the remaining content that can be scaled as needs develop, for example, a newsletter or industry/market blog. The design provides for clear navigation overall as well as means to access content within categories. These templates will be integrated with a content-management system (CMS) that allows the client to update content readily via any Web browser.

Stroma Vacanze Toscana

Stroma Vacanze Toscana offers rental villas & resorts in the Tuscan Val d'Era, with old-fashioned, highly personalized service. This design was reworked from one below & demonstrates the versatility of CSS-based design & layout. The challenge here was to lend visual impact yet give a friendly experience to narrowband users; the client would also manage the site via dial-up access. The resulting design takes full advantage of the speed from optimized code & a well-structured site. Italian landscape colors inspire the look-&-feel, & the fixed dimensions of the layout suggest the backside of a postcard — at once intimate & public. Finally, the clean design is provided with efficient global & context-specific navigation.

Smithcapades Blog

I developed two template designs in full XHTML for a complete reorganization of the site assets. The home page acts much like an online newspaper front page (top stories, fresh content, global & information navigation, ad spaces), and the other template is used for basic site structure & information pages.

Fairly Industrious

Fairly Industrious is an amateur photography Web site. I preserved the vintage feel of the mainly black-&-white photographs, using PHP scripting to create highly manageable, dynamic content. Content, including slideshows, is easily created or updated via templates & simple text files.

Rhetorical Engineer for Hire

The client preferred a feeling of minimal design, so I created a spare & modern layout with an elegant, Classical touch. This look-&-feel & is well suited for a site focused on text, since the client's business involves copywriting & producing corporate communications materials. I revamped the navigation for more efficient site organization, using the sidebar area to feature context-specific auxiliary navigation & to highlight links as well as colorful quotes present in the original site.

Template: "Glossy"

Fully functional XHTML template with a classic contemporary "glossy" look-&-feel. Pages expand to include varying amounts of content.

Diggins Dirtworks

Diggins Dirtworks features limited-production artisanal ceramics for sale online. I provided a look-&-feel redesign in fully functional XHTML. View the finished site.

Template: "Vintage" (Gel Layout)

This project is a semi-"liquid" layout, hence the term gel, where the two-column layout partially expands and flows depending on content and the size of the window or screen resolution. Clients are free to resize the window & fonts to create a comfortable view for well-organized content. The template is provided with a vintage-60s color scheme inspired by the Beach Boys' landmark album, Pet Sounds.

WORKHORSE Design Studio Online Store

WORKHORSE Design Studio is a design, fashion apparel, & merchandising company. In addition to the PHP-based main site, I designed the online store with Information, product, & info pages. I wrote all content & configured the hosting, e-commerce, & auxiliary financial services. The site was hosted by Yahoo! Merchant Solutions & was implemented using its proprietary inventory-management codes.

Maximiliano C. K. Murgio

I designed this site for my sister & her husband, who recently gave birth to their first son. Touches of humor enliven the images & complement the whimsical imperial design, with templates for many online albums & slideshows of images. For fun, I provided an alternate color scheme that showcases the same basic design with a PINK color palette.

Blue Gaucho

First look-&-feel in fully functional XHTML. Pages expand to include varying amounts of content.

Forestopia Consulting Group

Forestopia offers a full suite of research, communications, & web design services. I was given complete creative direction to develop the look-&-feel & organization of the company site, which is given here in fully functional XHTML. Alternate version

Valid XHTML 1.0 & CSS2

All sites are hand-coded using valid Strict or Transitional XHTML 1.0 & CSS2 for W3C-standards–compliance across multiple browsers & operating systems. In addition to preserving valuable bandwidth serverside & reducing load times in client browsers, this lightweight code eases content management & scales readily for future development.
