eMessage Archiver 4.10 beta 4
New Beta-Test
version: March 23, 2007
eMessage Archiver
is
an email and newsgroup message archiving
system, which
- moves the messages in your mail client
application to a separate database, if they
satisfy your specified criteria
- disposes of the originals according to
your suggestions (delete each original when safely archived,
or move to another folder/mailbox)
- provides a uniform format for all
message sources, and numerous optional
ways to view the messages
- includes a professional database and
filing application based
on FileMaker Pro (you do not
need to own FileMaker Pro)
Preferences
& Archiving Options: you select the email or newsgroup
application, and for each you can choose which messages to
archive according to how old each message is, which folders (or
mailboxes) they're in, and various status flags: the priority,
read/unread,
flagged, not Junk, etc.
Supported email applications: Mail,
Entourage, Eudora, Mailsmith, PowerMail, Emailer 2, Outlook Express 5.
Supported newsreaders: NewsWatcher
and varients, Thoth, MacSoup, Hogwasher.
Requirements: OS X or OS 9 and one of the
above
supported applications.
Note: This major upgrade will be the last
one that
continues to support OS 9 and earlier versions of FileMaker than 7.
Minor updates and fixes will continue for a while, as needed. The next
version after this will be for OS X only, and is being rebuilt from the
beginning with
FileMaker Pro 8 and OS X (Panther or later).
License: Shareware: free to try. Do
not register until you are sure that it works the way you need it to.
What's New this Version:
Note: This is the fourth beta
test;
use at your
own risk.
I suggest that you use the TEST MODE to test the
archiving
functions; this will just copy your messages,
but not dispose of the originals.
main function still in
development is updating the
scripts for importing
from other eMA versions, which will also convert those
databases to FMP 7-8 format first, so the importing can proceed as in
prior versions. Importing now will result in some data fields being
transferred incorrectly. Save your original databases until the final
release version of eMA 4.10.
This version is intended to test a few major
changes:
- AppleScripts: All AppleScripts, which do
the basic archiving operations for all the supported applications, have
parts that have been rewritten. Please check out archiving carefully
for the email applications you use, and carefully check the results for
accuracy.
- Improved support for Apple's Mail
application, handling correctly all or most kinds of email formats. My
code for using the email source for some data where Mail's
AppleScript functions are still defective, has been completely
rewritten, and most kinds of email are reasonably saved in text-only
mode, where html-only email is converted to clear text without all the
symbols and html code.
- All the other email
applications are still
supported, and have minor changes and bug fixes. They still need
testing, for those
changes may have bugs.
- The scripts for Importing from other and older eMessage
Archiver databases into the new one has been completely re-written. It
still imports the data from databases for Crevier's Emailer
Archive. The new Import script appears here for the first
time, so please check it out and report any problems or errors.
- New support for FileMaker Pro 8.5,
using a new eMA-only FMP 8.5 runtime application. FMP
8.5
uses the same database format as FMP 7 and 8, so people
who
prefer to use their own full FileMaker 7 or 8 can use it.
- FMP 8 and 8.5 have more features than 7, some of which are
implemented in this beta 4 for the first time.
FMP 8 features include several tabbed Views
and layouts, more custom menus and keyboard equivalents, andTooltips.
Some of these are experiments, which I would like your feedback on.
- However, these new features will not be visible if you use
FMP 7; you will see instead the FMP 7 features used in prior betas. So,
if you use OS X 10.3.9 or later, you are better off using the FMP 8
runtime, even if you own a full FMP 7.
The other varieties that I have been
supporting
will be available shortly in a later beta version, for earlier
versions of OS X, for OS 9, and for Filemaker 5-6. All of
these have changes and bug fixes also.

Warning:
These Apple Zip Archive files are about 33 MB, and over 90 MB after
