Grand Bahama Travelogue

Here are a few shots from our trip to Grand Bahama in early February, 2003. All photos are copyright © 2003 Ed Pastore.

Grand Bahama, 80 miles east of Florida Our hotel, see it at deadmansreef.com Our room, as seen from the beach Next to our room was the "Red Bar"... ...which served the nummy local beer... ...and shells too. Here's the view from the Red Bar That's Dead Man's Reef at sunset This is West End; on the, ahem, west end At the national park, see these caves On the other side of the park, trails A strange sub-tropical forest... ...where these were the only blooms These air-plants weren't blooming yet A close-up of a mangrove A trail through a mangrove swamp ...barely a trail... ...but it held up. Bahamian red-winged blackbird This guy flew right up to us A view out onto the creek... ...which was full of fish These cool duckies followed us around Hi, duckies. At the end of the trail, beautiful beach ...which made for good photos Here's the local lizard Here's a tiny lizard... barely visible Slightly larger lizards at a lame park Back at our hotel, just a great view A crane(?)... ...who was hunting right in front of us... ...and who made for great pictures At low tide, you could walk way out ...or whatnot... or just pose for the crooked camera Our calendar-style pose Bahamian sunset is pretty nice, eh? We liked this tree (not sure if it liked us) As the sun goes down on Grand Bahama... ...crabs (upper-right) dig these holes Close-up of that crab A conch at sunset This pretty much says Grand Bahama.
