Puerto Rico Travelogue
In January, 2004, Liz and Ed went to Puerto Rico and Isla de Vieques.

Puerto Rico (on the right)
Our first night was on the mainland, in Old San Juan
Old San Juan was decorated for christmas
...and there was a festival that weekend
Off the east coast of Puerto Rico is the island of Vieques
The flight from San Juan to Vieques
We didn't fly much higher than the mountains.
On Vieques, a primitive house. Behind it, a fort on the hill.
El Fortin Conde de Mirasol was the last Spanish fort built in the Americas.
The view from the fort.
Across the water is the Puerto Rico mainland.
A canon and leftover bricks (the fort was never quite finished).
A well inside the fort.
A spider and its meal, on one of the fort walls.
All around Vieques the houses tended to have these bars and fences.
These guys were omnipresent as well, of course.
This is the road to "Secret Beach." Can you guess why it's called that?
Just a little further... You can see Secret Beach in the center of the photo.
There was almost nobody there.
That's the whole beach.
...or as seen from the water.
Rocks placed by alleged members of the "International Rock Balancing Society."
We balanced some rocks too.
At Vieques airport at dawn.
This was our ride back to Puerto Rico.
View of Puerto Rico, northeast coast.
Right outside the window.
Yeah, we were lower than the mountains.
And we landed on that airstrip.
Our last afteroon was at Isla Verde, a typical San Juan beach.
Still made for a nice January afternoon.
