Annie, Emily and I decided to not cancel the trip to Itasca despite the intimidating weather. When we set out Friday afternoon it was raining and all reports pointed towards more of the same for Saturday.
It had stopped raining by the time we arrived at the park. We were able to setup our camp with out getting too wet. Water from the previous rains was sprinkling us as the wind whipped through the trees. At Emily's excellent suggestion we had changed our campsite to the Pine Ridge camp from a cart-in site at the Bear Paw camp. There were many more trees for tarp tying and we found out later that the Bear Paw Camp was very open. In order to setup our awesome tarp on friday night I was converted into a jungle gym... it was worth it though to have a well positioned tarp in case of rain. :-)
It rained a little overnight but by the morning it had stopped and the rest of the day was rain free. As you'll see in the pictures we headed off to find the headwaters of the Mississippi and various other points of interest at the park. We even sighted some blue sky!! A great day even though it was overcast. Sunday was an absloutely fantastic day!! Lots of sun, blue sky, and warmer temperatures were with us all day.
A & E are hardcore campers to be sure!!
