| 2004 Ice Palace | | The tradition of the Saint Paul Winter Carnival started in 1886. 118 years later, "The Coolest Celebration on Earth!" still draws hardy Minnesotans out to celebrate life even in the coldest of seasons. The 2004 Saint Paul Winter Carnival featured the first ice palace since 1992. Ice palaces have also been featured in 1986, 1941, 1939, 1937, 1888, 1887, and 1886.
