| See Ya! | | Date Created: Jan 16, 2007, 11:01 PM |
Well the age of BlogWave Studio is coming to an end. This will most likely be one of the last handfull of posts to this blog using BlogWave. I have opened an account with DreamHost and will soon be using WordPress to do my blogging. It could be a good month or three yet before I have a working blog using WordPress as I'll be experimenting with design, site content, and if I want to have any recurring themes. I like the "Interesting Words" posts so I think those will carry over to the new thing.
I dont know how much content will be moved from the archives here to my new WordPress blog. I dont think its going to be too easy so I might only bring over select posts. I still have pictures from my Brazil trip that I will link here once I get finished sorting them. In any case I'll leave this blog up in its current form for as long as I have my .Mac account or untill I have ported enough of the original posts over to WordPress.
See ya later BlogWave.... nice knowing ya but youre a bit clunky. |

Due to the extreme cold this last week the BSVoD (Black Saturn Vue of Doom) had a few problems. On the way to work last Friday the BSVoD started smoking and smelling of burning oil. I think to myself... This cant be good. Fortunately it turned out to be less not good that it could have been.
The PCV hose was frozen due to the extreme cold temperatures. This caused the pressure to build up and force oil out one of the gaskets. There was a work around that the techs were able to put in place so that shouldnt happen again. Fortunately the leak was only temporary due to the built up pressure caused by the frozen PCV hose.
Sunday night the Service Engine Soon light came to life. That turned out to be a faulty thermostat and it was easily fixed. Im glad to say that buying my extended warranty on the BSVoD has been a worth while investment!! |

Annie, Emily and I decided to not cancel the trip to Itasca despite the intimidating weather. When we set out Friday afternoon it was raining and all reports pointed towards more of the same for Saturday.
It had stopped raining by the time we arrived at the park. We were able to setup our camp with out getting too wet. Water from the previous rains was sprinkling us as the wind whipped through the trees. At Emily's excellent suggestion we had changed our campsite to the Pine Ridge camp from a cart-in site at the Bear Paw camp. There were many more trees for tarp tying and we found out later that the Bear Paw Camp was very open. In order to setup our awesome tarp on friday night I was converted into a jungle gym... it was worth it though to have a well positioned tarp in case of rain. :-)
It rained a little overnight but by the morning it had stopped and the rest of the day was rain free. As you'll see in the pictures we headed off to find the headwaters of the Mississippi and various other points of interest at the park. We even sighted some blue sky!! A great day even though it was overcast. Sunday was an absloutely fantastic day!! Lots of sun, blue sky, and warmer temperatures were with us all day.
A & E are hardcore campers to be sure!!

| Disc Golf Weekend | | Date Created: Aug 07, 2006, 11:05 PM |
This past Friday Jer, Josh, Jim and I set out for Highbridge Hills Sports Complex in Highbridge Wisconsin. The four of us and all of our gear, poker table included, JUST fit into Jer's mini van. The trip takes a little over three hours but I can tell you it's well worth it.
The place is HUGE. They currently have four 18 hole courses open and one 9 hole course. The 9 hole course is semi lighted and open 24 hours. The main 18 hole courses are "pay to play" but when you see the work and effort that has gone into designing and building this complex, the nominal fee for all day play is well worth it. The complex also has its own camp ground with shower facilities.
Josh took some great pictures.... I snapped a few as well.
Saturday night we headed into Ashland to the Deep Water Grille for some fantastic food after a long day of disc. On Saturday we played of the 18 hole courses, Granite Ridge, Highbridge Gold, and Woodland Greens. The first two are very long courses and my arm didnt make it all the way through Highbridge Gold. I was able to play Woodland Greens which is a much shorter course than the other two after a few hour break. Next year I'll have to get my throwing arm in shape so I can give Jer some competition.
It was a fantastic weekend with the guys and I cant wait to get out there again!!

| Time for a new tool | | Date Created: Jul 31, 2006, 08:09 PM |
Part of my reluctance to post comes from the fact that I have to have my laptop with me. Blogwave Studio is an ok program but I need something new that will allow me to blog from any computer when a thought hits me. Maybe it just boils down to having a more efficient and accessable blogging tool. Unfortunately I havent been able to find a program/service that will let me use my .Mac account and have the flexability of blogging from any computer. Perhaps I havent looked hard enough. Any suggestions?
Oh and you may have noticed i turned off the comments.... they mysteriously kept getting deleted so i just turned them off. |

I thought I'd be more motivated to blog more since finishing my CCNA but thats apparently not the case. Im working on a few new posts regarding my new REI purchases that I made during the sale at REI the other weekend. Another "Interesting Words" install ment will be on the way. I've been busy fixing up my condo so I can sell it but not so busy I couldnt post more. Bad me! :-P
The next few weekends are going to be busy for me...
The Weekend of May 27th: Memorial Day weekend, Pucks bachelor party, Puck's wedding,
Weekend of June 3rd: Puck and Kelly's wedding
Weekend of June 10th: Karin is coming for a visit. :-) :-)
June 14: Adeline fly's in for Bethany and Patrick's wedding.
June 15: Bethany and Patrick's wedding.
June 16: E2 flying in for Anne Marie's wedding.
June 17: Wedding for my cousin Anne Marie, later that evening the reception for Bethany and Patrick's wedding.
So I'll be a little busy. :-P
I'll write more... I promise!

| The "people who don't get it"... | | Date Created: Mar 28, 2006, 12:28 AM |
There are some small things in life that everyone should know. These things should be universally known, like the operation of a sliding glass door. Apparently there are some "people who don't get it" and never will. One of these things is proper elevator etiquette. Specifically the entering and exiting of the elevator... say you are waiting for the elevator... the elevator arrives and there are people already in it.... would you A) calmly wait for the people to exit the elevator before entering, or B) Barge into the elevator before the door is fully open? If you are one of the people who "gets it" you would wait to see if the people on the elevator are going to exit before you enter. That would be proper elevator etiquette.
|
There are two of the "people who don't get it" in my apartment building. As I am trying to exit the elevator they don't even wait. The "people who don't get it" rush right into the elevator like they were being chased by a pack of hungry Sleestacks. I checked the hall later... no Sleestacks in sight. Im pretty sure these are the type of people who would push past grandma if she were trying to exit the elevator. As the door was sliding closed I said a few "not so nice words" in a "not so library like" tone of voice to the "people who don't get it" about their not "getting it". Normally I let it slide with the "people who don't get it", but today was different. |

| I passed my CCNA exam today with a score of 900 out of 1000! A passing score is anything above 849. I used up all but about 6 minutes of the 90 given for the test. My brain was cerebral mush for the remainder of the day. I was apparently the first person in over a year to pass the CCNA exam on the first try at this particular testing center. I plan on completing the CCNP exam down the road but for the time being I'll be giving my brain a well deserved rest! |

| Star Wars Geekery | | Date Created: Mar 10, 2006, 08:14 PM |
| I was looking at WordPress themes this afternoon and some how stumbled onto this site. It was actually the main page of a blog with a bunch of other posts... I was about to close the window when I heard Star Wars sounds in the background. I scroll down the page to find Darth Vader going to town with two turn tables and a microphone. I had to post about it some where right away so I put it up on another site i belong to GeekGather.org |
| Geekin' Out | | Date Created: Mar 04, 2006, 12:48 PM |
I havent attended the Geek Gather in quite sometime. This months event is a nice break from my normal work, eat, study, sleep, rinse & repeat cycle. There are eight of us here today working on a variety of projects and just relaying our geekish wisdom. I have gotten several good ideas on different blog tools to try out. One idea I have been toying with is to turn my iMac into a WordPress server but I dont know how much bandwidth hosting it will cause. Patrick and Michael are suggesting that I go with Dreamhost for a hosting service for Word Press. |
| Serious Brainwork | | Date Created: Jan 31, 2006, 10:24 PM |
I know my blog has been very quiet the past few months. I have been deep in the books as it were. Before the new year I was spending all my time studying for a Network+ certification. Currently I am at the midpoint of earning my CCNA certification.
The beginning portion of the CCNA course work has been review for the most part. At one of my previous jobs I had daily interaction with Cisco routers. In this latter portion of the course I am breaking into new territory. Challenging but I dont mind that. Well except the part where I need to study for at least 2-3 hours a day to keep on track.
When I get done with this course I will have more time to devote to the blog. I will also be researching other alternatives to BlogWave Studio, my current blogging application. Well back to the studying.... |

| Where did my coments go?!?! I use haloscan for my comment server but that might change soon. About the same time that my wallet was lost, all the comments from my blog went the way of the the highway bunny who was having a squirrly moment of doubt. WHO STOLE MY COMMENTS?!?!?! |
| Syracuse Tubing | | Date Created: Dec 31, 2005, 12:58 PM |
| We traveled to a "ski resort" called The Four Seasons to go tubing the other day. It was about 40 out and raining. The "hill" that we were to be tubing down was really just a slight geographical anomaly that had snow on it. Despite the rain and the wee size of the hill we had a blast! I can say its the first time I have ever been show tubing in the rain. We are currently getting snow so hopefully on Monday we can go snowshoeing. |
