TechTV is dead?

I just learned that G4, which recently bought TechTV, is now shutting it down. This is heartbreaking.

TechTV is wonderful. It's full of all things new and exciting in the world of technology. It's not necessarily geeky in its presentation but doesn't apologize or dumb down its content when it does get geeky. Why do G4 and Comcast have to pull the plug?

I've been a fan of the channel since subscribing to digital cable and the only show that I record on my DVR and watch regularly is The Screensavers. Not all the talent is necessarily "talk show host" breed but that's what I enjoy about it. I feel everyone is there because he enjoys his job and cares about telling the world what's happening not only technologically but also politically and socially. Technology today plays so much a part of our lives that how it's shaping our lives is very newsworthy. And interesting!

Leo Laporte has been a staple in this market and others such as John Dvorak have brought their wit and wisdom to this channel. I'm sure they will all be back in new avenues after the closing of TechTV. There's too much interest in the channel's format to let it die. Leo's trackbacks for this announcement are up to 130+ now, which I'm sure signifies the shock and awe of the announcement.

A few shows are bound to carry over to G4 and I hope they will have their same spontaneity and enthusiasm. All I ask is that the new formats don't become too full of flashy showmanship. Having gone through several lay offs myself—surviving some and succumbing to others—my sympathies go to all those affected.
