Signing up for mobile AOL AMBER Alerts
PANs don't have to be
limited to less than 50 feet away. AOL is delivering AMBER Alerts for your zip
code via SMS.
I'm hesitant about passing out my mobile phone
number to companies where we don't have a business relationship but for AOL's
AMBER Alert
service I'll waive my distrust and try
it.If this method of disseminating
missing child information results in the return of a child then this will be one
of the best uses of a PAN (Personal Area
Network) that I've seen. PANs are technically only a few meters around
an individual but I choose to include them in larger scenarios such as by city,
zip code or other personally definable
area.In this case an AOL or AIM user
can subscribe to an alert to be notified of an AMBER Alert within one or more
zip codes and surrounding areas. Surely, AOL won't misplace a participant's
trust and begin sending more than just AMBER Alerts. Right?
