| Some people say, "We should eat out more often,"
but we actually did something about it.
Way back in September, 2004, five University
of Chicago students realized that they didn't know enough about
Chicago restaurants and they needed new ways to make themselves
poorer. Suddenly, inspiration struck: "What about a dinner
club?" The rest is history (well, actually all of it
is history, and New Historicism tells us that history itself is
a disputed space–can you tell that we're grad students?).
Anyway, the 5ive 4 Food
Fun was born! (Well, it wasn't actually born–that would be messy.)
54FF meets biweekly(-ish) for lunch/brunch/dinner in an effort to explore
the best of Chicago dining. (note: definition of 'best' varies based
on criteria such as cheapness, originality, completely un-p.c. ethnic
'authenticity' and/or camp value.) At our first meeting at
Orange Restaurant, we joked that we should give ourselves a name
and take minutes of our meetings. With a napkin, a pen and
a bit too much coffee, we took minutes, gave ourselves professional-sounding
titles and scheduled our next meeting.
Why are we doing this?
Beats me. Quite frankly, if you were a student at U of C,
you'd probably do the same thing. Hours of reading can blur
your judgement.
p.s. This thingy is still
under construction, so stop yer whining.
