When Steve Hawking or a child with a communication aid speaks to you, it is not always evident just how they are controlling their computers. And if the person is delivering a pre-prepared speech, rather than producing their content on a word by word basis, there is less chance of your spotting what input devices are being used. You may be told that the person is using a Switch and that they are 'Scanning'.

Imagine the 'Tab' key on a computer automatically and continuously 'Scanning' areas of the screen, until a user makes a selection, and then scanning within the chosen area, until the user makes a selection... Using the group, then row, then column method of navigating significantly shortens the file path to an item, especially one that is in the last row of column 12 or 16 in a grid. 1 Voice children and Role Model explain:
