Query 6: 500 core words used at school? - minus exceptions

Back to JAFW search page       LLL flashcards database

Session No Date Session Type Word Notes

Only words that belong in the 500 Common Core appear in this query. 'Hoover' and other x-core words are in the 'Fringe' query. (Combined lists of all words uttered on each day are in the Language Activity Monitoring Section).

We will probably add another field to database to show how each utterance was generated - either by Semantic Compaction, where each word is generated by two hits on the keyboard (like open folder > open file); by Word Prediction, where the whole word may not need to be spelled out (if it exists in the word prediction dictionary); or by Spelling (which requires an average of five or six hits per word, including the space).

The Pathfinder provides access to 1,000's of common words in two hits, by default, and we add words that Michael needs to say regularly to the default two-hit area. How sad are we to find Michael spelling out words that we thought he had been saying daily for years, like 'H-e-l-l-o---M-r---E-l-l-i-s' (see LAM file for 060321 (YYMMDD).

The following query shows words used at school, but NOT INCLUDING sessions where only YES/NO, Chat about HOOVERS in lessons, or ACTIVITY ROW phrases were uttered, except for Session 6, which has a mixture of communication content (we think the reading part of Session 6 starts at record no 28, 'man'). Each word is recorded once per session, but may appear on the list more than once, if it is uttered in multiple sessions. The data below represents 5 days Pathfinder use at school.
