Bolt the plane to the lower arm and offer the plane in place.

If you are satisfied that the blades align with the fence, clamp the arm in position and fit the bolts to hold it to the machine table.

Assemble the rest of the bracket around the bottom arm.

Slacken the two bolts holding the top arm and using the fine-adjustment and an accurate square, set the blades at right angles to the machine table top.

Tighten the two bolts holding the top arm afterwards.

If the stand needs stripping or cleaning the bottom arm is left in place so that the blades will automatically align when the stand is rebuilt.

safety

I screw the pattern to the work to fix it securely.   A professional might use nails.

With the guard in place and the work secured to a robust pattern or jig the blades are almost totally enclosed during a machining operation.

This shaper must be as safe as any other power tool in a home workshop.

shaping

The shaper can generate plain surfaces which are straight or convex.

It is worth mentioning here that wood prepared on the shaper rarely needs sanding as it comes away from the machine with an excellent finish.
