The bracket holds the plane close to the drum as rigidly as the plastic body allows.

Setting the plane blades at right angles to the machine table takes just a moment using the fine-adjustment.

The machine table is made from four layers of 10mm thick multi-ply, glued and bolted together.

Leave the steel guide long so that more than one effort can be made if you are trying to position the guide without a drill stand.

Once you are satisfied with position, drill the holes in the machine table and bolt it in place.

A steel sheet is fixed in position on the working side of the table with glue.

Try the plane in position at this stage to make sure the blades align with the fence.

Make all the parts for the stand.

Increase the diameter of these two holes in the top arm to 12mm to allow for the fine-adjustment to function.

Take one of the side plates and drill all of the 7mm diameter holes.

Assemble the arm and use clamps to keep the parts in place, with the already drilled side plate on top.

Using this as a drill template, drill the 7mm holes right through and as each hole is drilled pop a bolt in to keep the parts in line.   Release the clamps and drill the remaining holes as shown.

Even if you are drilling the holes without the help of a drill stand, the holes should line up.

Again offer the plane in position and mark out on a piece of card the position of the holes required in the machine table.

Mark the position of the card on the fence.   Saw out the holes when you are satisfied with their position.
