Get Fruity With A Tree!


Herefordshire Council Parks & Countryside Services have announced the 'Fruit Tree Initiative' which aims to provide tree 'kits' to help you grow your own fruit trees. These kits are now available to order (for collection from Queenswood next month) in a bid to see more traditionally local apples grown in Herefordshire. Herefordshire orchards with local fruit are an important feature of the landscape, a valuable wildlife habitat and the basis of many local traditions and culture. The kit for gardens includes apple varieties like the Herefordshire Russet, Beauty of Bath and Ellison’s Orange and the garden trees should grow to 8 - 10ft tall.

This year’s trees for orchards grow to around 20ft in height and feature apples like the Golden Pippin, Edward VII, Gladstone and many more. Each kit costs around £9 and contains one young tree and a tree tie. The kits can be ordered by filling in a form from the Countryside and Parks section of the Council website or below or by contacting Jenny in the Parks and Countryside admin team on 01568 798320 for a form.

All trees must be collected from Queenswood Country Park, Dinmore Hill on Saturday 26th November (10am -3pm) or Sunday 27th November (10am - 2pm). You can also buy trees on these days that haven’t been pre-ordered, however there are limited numbers so if in doubt pre order to avoid disappointment.
