Hereford flood wall - Wye so high?![]() ![]() ![]() File
this one under 'Bonkers Beaurocracy'. Readers may have seen the small piece on
page 5 of this weeks Hereford Times about the Environment Agency's flood defence
idea; put up a wall along the river bank and stop the floods! Its too simple,
isn't it. The river floods perhaps every other year for a few days, its hard on
people whose homes are flooded but why should the thousands who enjoy walking
alongside the river every year and who look onto the river from their homes and
businesses be deprived of views that generations have enjoyed, not to mention
the impact on wildlife and the creation of a muggers alley. Even the residents
who've asked for something to be done are objecting as they demonstrate this
weekend what is proposed, as our pictures show. We'll be updating this story as
the facts emerge.
