Bishops Meadow breaking news - breakthrough with Environment Agency

The Environment Agency have agreed that it "would benefit all parties" to hold a further day of exhibition next Wednesday, 28th February. This is now confirmed as running from 11am to 7.30pm at The River Room at Left Bank (please note revised time of 7.30pm).

As you will understand it is crucial for hundreds of people to turn up at this consultation. This is especially welcome as a major frustration of local people is that the so called consultation last year was so poorly publicised that most people didn't even know it had taken place. We will keep you posted or visit the emerging campaign website at www.bishopsmeadow.org.uk.

Bikeability is here (almost)

Bikeability is 'Cycling Proficiency' for the 21st century designed to give children the skills and confidence to cycle safely in and around today's modern roads and environment. But it's not just about teaching kids to ride a bike. Bikeability has been introduced to help make cycling an everyday activity, an alternative mode of transport, a way to keep healthy and above all lots of fun! Bikeability is being tested in a few lucky areas over the coming months and, in March 2007, Bikeability will be rolled out across England. Bikeability is administered by Cycling England who will work with a range of partners who all share a vision of more people cycling, more safely, more often. The website is designed to tell you everything you need to know about Bikeability.

Desperately seeking 'Golden Meadow Crossing'

Colin has contacted us from the W Midlands - we're spreading - with a fascinating story and pictures from a bygone era. His father is pictured here in the centre from 1935. Colin writes "I was interested in the area around Sutton St Nicholas and Marden and on to Dinmore. My father used to ride there from here in Birmingham as a 15 year old back in 1935 with a couple of friends, one of whom was apprenticed at the ICI factory along with my father and they always camped at this lads parents place, which was a small farm at a place called 'Golden Meadow Crossing'. The family's name was Turner." Read more of this fascinating story with more pictures ...
