back in 1999, the long lost relative of this group, Hereford Cycle User's Group,
published a map of Herefordshire with an accompanying booklet describing 100
routes around the County. Put together by Mike Harrison, it has remained an
essential for every cyclist wanting to explore the hidden beauty of
Herefordshire. The 1:100,000 map is printed on waterproof foldable paper and was
described as ‘favourite map’ by Exeter cartographers and the CTC still puts it top of its list of UK cycle
maps. Unfortunately, they are now very hard to come by but we have secured a few
copies which are available for £6.50 each to collect or £7.00 posted.
Email us if you would like to buy but
hurry!
Mike is now based in Devon and is running www.croydecycle.co.uk. He has just published
similar 1:100,000 maps covering both Devon and Cornwall which are available at
just £4 each (including p & p) direct from Croyde Cycle; full details
on his website. We have a copy of each map here if you would like to see before
ordering; please email us.

we know its cold but you'll soon warm up! In response to some enquiries, we're
thinking about planning a series of rides over the winter period starting from
say The Volunteer in Harold Street or The Victoria Bridge. There could be
different grades of rides, for instance a 25-30 mile ride for the hardy ones, a
10 mile ride that involved a pub stop for lunch and family friendly tours of the
City and green corridors, and perhaps 'learner laps' around quiet streets and
green corridors for children or adults who are nervous about riding on roads. We
could if required include an element of proficiency training by a qualified
instructor. We're open to suggestions ... its your shout ... do please get in
touch via email or telephone 352559 if you're not certain
and would like a chat.
If you'd like some individual training, Herefordshire Council is offering free cycling lessons to adults in a bid to encourage more cycling. One-to-one sessions, which normally cost £20, are available from professional instructors for a limited period. For details and booking contact your local instructor on 07969 694707 or go to the Council web page here.
