On October 14, 2007, at midnight, one of the most prominent Filipino-American bands on the East coast, Bleud, will be giving away their latest single on their website, http://www.bleud.net.

Two years and change since the release of their debut album, ‘Musings of a Caffeine Addict’, the Jersey City based Fil-Am rock band, Bleud, consisting of Ted Reyes, Jerwin Glorioso, Arnold Derama, Jason Estrada and Brian Joseph Miguel, return to the ever growing Fil-Am music scene with the release of their latest single, ‘Ordinary.’
“We’re happy and excited about the single release” says Ted, Bleud’s guitarist. “It’s our way of saying thanks to all our friends and supporters who have stuck with us all these years. We’re intending to release two more free singles before the album launch.”

‘Ordinary’ will be Bleud’s latest release since December 2006 when they took part in the Soulworks Records ‘Rocky Yuletide 2’ holiday compilation album with the single, ‘This Christmas.’

“Yeah, it’s been a while hasn’t it? But it’s not to say that we haven’t been doing anything", adds Ted. "There have been a lot of changes with the band from switching the instruments around, to bringing Jason on board and also with the sound of the band."

The release also marks only the second single with the newest member, Jason Estrada, on drums.

“Being new to the recording process and to the band, in general, at the time of ‘Rocky Yuletide’ was a little overwhelming” says Jay. “Now with ‘Ordinary,’ I knew what to expect and I guess that put more pressure to get it down right",

The new lineup has given the band a heavier sound and has also made their performances more dynamic and exciting.

“Yeah, it’s great” says Bleud front man Brian Joseph, “I get to feel the music more, if that makes any sense. I think it gives us even more stage presence.”

“The song (Ordinary) is definitely different from what you’ve known us to be. It is the first song that Ted and I wrote together and developed along with Jerwin and Arnold. It is the heaviest we’ve done so far. The first album was an entire learning process for all of us. Not only were we starting to learn about the type of music that each of us liked, we were also still getting to know each other personally, and the first album is definitely a reflection of that. ‘Musings’ is a collection of songs that Ted and I wrote individually; songs that meant one thing to the writer, but something different to the rest of the band”, Brian added.

However, with Bleud’s new sound and heavier approach, all signs point to them permanently moving away from the pop-rock songs found on the first album. Tracks such as Anime Girl, Babolgam Music and Bye Bye Na seem like songs of a distant past. Or are they?

“Oh definitely not” says Ted. We still enjoy playing songs from our debut album because it helped us get to where we are today. Most of our supporters really enjoy those songs whenever we play. We may give the old songs a whirl and re-arrange them a bit, but still, those are Bleud songs and they aren’t going anywhere.”

Rumors are spreading that Bleud stopped writing Tagalog songs in an attempt to please local NY/NJ clubs and labels.

“Again, definitely not” says Ted. “We know how important Tagalog songs are, not only to our followers but to us as well. In fact, we will be releasing three Tagalog songs before the album is launched. ‘Tayo Na Sa Ulan,’ ‘Hatinggabi,’ and a new version of ‘Turon.’

It is important for bands like Bleud to release new songs and albums to continue to inject more life into the blossoming Fil-Am music scene. And with the New Year fast approaching, the scene is expecting more music from Fil-Am artists that would help catapult the scene to even more unprecedented heights.

‘Ordinary’ will be available for free download at midnight on October 14th, exclusively on their website, http://www.bleud.net. It will be released under Soulworks Records.

Bleud Gigs

August 5 - 1st World's Fair - Atlas Park, Glendale, NY
August 18 - Vittum Theater, Chicago
September 1	- Poptimes Anniversary Show, The Delancey, NYC
September 15	- Bag of Tricks Dos , Middletown, NJ

Bleud live on ABS-CBN: SPEAK OUT!

Taped last February, the band made it's national TV debut via TFC!

The Animé Girl Video

Animé Girl Premiere

<img class="imageStyle" alt="mar3" src="http://homepage.mac.com/tedreyes/Bleud/files//page0_blog_entry58_1.jpg"width="400" height="400"/>

BLEUD on TV

<img class="imageStyle" alt="posteruc7" src="http://homepage.mac.com/tedreyes/Bleud/files//page0_blog_entry57_1.jpg"width="490" height="634"/>

Bleud on ABS-CBN/TFC

<img class="imageStyle" alt="img3934wg6" src="http://homepage.mac.com/tedreyes/Bleud/files//page0_blog_entry56_1.jpg"width="535" height="357"/>
Photo by Sheryl Garcia

The band, on their recent trip to San Francisco, taped an episode of the ABS-CBN/TFC program SPEAK OUT.
Airing date is scheduled for Sunday, February 25, 2007, 6:30 PM (EST) on TFC. Arnold, Jerwin, Brian and Ted land at the world's
most popular digital music store - Apple's iTunes Music Store.
(Photo by Sheryl A. Garcia)

NEW YORK – The biggest and most popular digital music store in the world, with over1 billion songs sold – Apple’s iTunes Music Store, added a new album in their vast inventory last Tuesday, April 17: ‘Musings of a Caffeine Addict’ by the band BLEUD.
It appears to be just routine work for the people at Apple to add a new album into their catalogue, but for the Filipino community, the news has sent shockwaves across the nation – Bleud is an independent Filipino Rock band, and in being so, becomes the first to achieve the feat.

Bleud is NOT the only Filipino-American band, at the famed music store. Moonpools and Caterpillars, a California-based band is also selling their debut album recorded in 1995 called ‘Lucky Dumpling’. The difference between the two Fil-Am releases is that a major American label, Eastwest/Electra Records, released ‘Lucky Dumpling’. Bleud’s debut, on the other hand, is as indie as it can get. It was recorded with a very small budget and promoted guerrilla-style. ‘ We play everywhere just to let the word out and sell our music, from church gigs with nuns and priests to NYC’s Cutting Room, CBGB’s lounge, the Teabag, and Rutgers U in Newark. It is indie-rock at its most basic’, says Ted Reyes, the band’s bassist, vocalist and producer of the debut album.

The iTunes Store, the acclaimed pioneer of digital Music retail online, reserves the right to select new releases from major record companies and small, independent record companies. Therefore, it is no guarantee that any new releases will automatically be sold at the music retail giant. Bleud’s label, Soulworks Records is one of those small, but hardworking, labels.

The road to iTunes

Bleud burst into prominence in late 2004 in the New York-New Jersey Fil-Am Rock scene. Their debut album, the one being sold at the Itunes Music Store, spewed two hit singles in the local scene, as well as the music scene in the Philippines: ‘Hello my Friends, Hello’, which became part of Alpha Music Philippines 2005 Rock Compilation ‘Silver Shiny Jeepney’, and ‘Bye Bye Na’.
The band recently released a 2-sided single from the album: ‘Field Trip’, a Filipino Song, and ‘Animé Girl’, and English number. Both of which, are being offered as free downloads in the band’s website: www.bleud.net.

The band’s relentless assault on college gigs and clubs in New York and Jersey has created enough buzz to generate a steady following. Their songs are currently being rotated heavily around Asian-American radio stations and campus stations around the area.

In being featured at iTunes, the band is as surprised as anyone.
‘It is amazing to see and preview Filipino-made songs, English or Tagalog in iTunes Music Store. It just brings a rush of Pinoy pride to anyone who sees it. Imagine a Tagalog indie-rock song at iTunes! Unbelievable’, adds Bleud lead guitarist Arnold. Derama. More than Pinoy pride, Bleud’s remarkable achievement is a ray of hope for small bands and record labels alike. They are the living examples of ‘anything is possible’.

The Jersey-City based quartet is composed of Ted Reyes, Arnold Derama , Brian Joseph Miguel on vocals and rhythm guitar, and Jerwin Glorioso on drums.
The much-talked about album is also available in CDs at major music shops like Tower Records, Virgin Megastore, Amazon, and Target.com.
To buy their songs through iTunes, simply launch the application and search Bleud in the store browser. The entire digital album costs $9.99 and $0.99 per song.
Comments | Trackback

Bleud's Album Debuts at iTunes!

<img class="imageStyle" alt="Bleud at itunes" src="http://homepage.mac.com/tedreyes/Bleud/files//page0_blog_entry19_1.jpg"width="357" height="244"/>
Finally, Bleud lands at the music store that sold a billion songs.
(Click pic to view. iTunes required)

The band's debut album 'Musings of a Caffeine Addict' has finally been made available at the world's biggest, grandest digital music store - Apple's iTunes Music Store!

If you have iTunes for Windows or Mac OSX. click here to get to the Bleud page at the iTunes Music Store.

This is a FIRST in the Filipino and Filipino-American rock scene!

She Shot Bleud!

The band's photo gallery opens with Sheryl A Garcia's exhibit of Bleud photos taken from a recent gig down the Bowery.

<img class="imageStyle" alt="129286382_50799b70d9" src="http://homepage.mac.com/tedreyes/Bleud/files//page0_blog_entry18_1.jpg"width="245" height="360"/>
'Three' -
From Sheryl A. "You Make Me" is the second track from the 'indie' compilation dubbed "Silver Shiny Jeepney" released recently under Alpha Music.

Raimund Marasigan, former Eheads drummer who actually wrote the said song pointed out, "Kasama yung kantang yun sa EP (Pls. Transpose) namin a few years back which contains about seven cuts. This was during the time na umalis na si Ely (Buendia) sa group and we tapped Kris to replace him."

"You Make Me" features the lead vocal of Kris Gorra, former member of the all-female Fatal Posporos and wife of Sugarfree's Ebe Dancel. Except for Ely, the rest of Eraserheads are intact for the track: Buddy Zabala on bass, Marcus Adoro on guitar, and Raimund himself on drums.

The drivingly tuneful and finely arranged rock ditty is reminiscent of the so-called 'Marasigan Rockers' which found themselves opposite Ely's remarkably pop compositions in almost every Eheads album since 1993 and up to their last album "Carbon Stereoxide" released in 2001.

As for the question why the Ely Buendia-less Eheads didn't come out with a full-scale album, Raimund recalled, "After a short while umalis na din si Marcus sa grupo. Nag-relocate na siya sa north (Northern Philippines) to do surfing. So, we decided to officially disband Eheads and formed Cambio."

Alpha Music's A&R Supervisor and record producer Rhany Torres, who compiled tracks for "Silver Shiny Jeepney" CD, said, "You Make Me" is technically an 'indie' track since they (Eheads) recorded this independently. Plus, the fact that they had already transformed into an indie group around the time they recorded the track. I like the song so I asked their permission if I can include it to the compilation."

According to Raimund who now plays for three different bands (Sandwich, Cambio, and Pedicab), "You Make Me" was produced only on a four-track cassette recording. "When they told me gagamitin nila yung kanta, sabi ko, 'Sure why not."

"Silver Shiny Jeepney" includes 19 other OPM tracks from fresh local indie acts, three foreign-based Pinoy groups (Bleud, Melancholics, and A.D.D), and familiar names in the indie scene like Monsterbot and Brownbeat Allstars. It was noted in the album's sleeve that the Filipino artists in this compilation are mostly unsigned or had never experienced recording under the supervision of a big label, save for few like Eheads and Imago.

Another strong cut is "Hello My Friends, Hello" by Bleud whose bass-playing vocalist Ted Reyes was part of the defunct Free Souls which scored a minor hit called "Shindig" years ago.
