The client was moving to Virginia Beach against the wishes of her comedian husband, so wanted a very modest home in terms of cost. The design challenge here was to build a house that maximized the use of modular material. Normal design tricks were used to make small spaces appear larger, but the real attention went into reconciling the various dimensional artifacts of the manufactured material. This house was built at about half the going rate per square foot, and about 40% of equivalent homes in the area (because of fewer square feet). There were some small experiments in form as well, working with the vertical space.
