I offer your company my organizational, analytical, and creative skills. Tapping into my abilities to communicate and coordinate between creative and technical parties is optimal. Mainly, a role where the challenges are ever-new (as opposed to operating and maintaining an existing system) makes for a good match. |

DIGITAL WATERFALL 'Digital Waterfall' is a product design persona that I have used for more than a decade. Web design using HTML, CSS, and SEO has been its largest focus of late. Historically, doing graphic art design for organizations around Stanford campus, (the student coffeehouse, dormitories, the Stanford Band) spun off to doing design work for off-campus organizations. Starting humbly with designing T-shirts for the likes of sports teams and music groups, blossomed into promotional posters for musical performances, and then launched into business system design for professionals. Creating digital art naturally led to teaching myself HTML and doing web design early on. I harnessed the use of markup languages in general, (beyond HTML, that is). Using such a proprietary mark-up language, I helped script an educational CD-ROM called ActivChemistry for Addison Wesley Publishing. Then I discovered a company called Virtual Press and helped steer the development of its special open eBook markup language. I was listed as one of the authors on this language's patent. Over a decade of using the computer as my primary tool also lent to developing computer repair and problem solving expertise on both hardware and software on both PCs and Macs. My product designer personality is a hybrid one that fares flexibly and well in both the technical and artistic realms and can serve as a bridge between the two. VIRTUAL PRESS / SOFTBOOK PRESS / GEMSTAR TV GUIDE INTERNATIONAL I was on the starting line-up of this Silicon Valley company that developed an award-winning electronic device called an eBook. This product is able to download documents and volumes through the telephone line or via Ethernet. Roles I had were in developing the mark-up language as well as the tools used to layout the books, periodicals and documents intended for the device. I actually pioneered the look and feel for electronic reading material, and instructed customers on how to likewise convert their content on their own. I was assigned our most important enterprise clients, such as the House Republican Committee and the American Red Cross. I would first interview them to understand their needs; design the back-end structure that would make their desires real; and then teach them how to use the user interface that I coded for them to securely distribute their critical information to their eBook devices. The results of my work were consistently well received. Another hat that I wore was designing the dynamically generated electronic catalog available on the reader itself. On top of the eBook-specific work, I also designed of a number of the company's web sites. I possess a knack that is critical in a start-up environment: the ability to work with very little direction and ill-defined goals and produce results nonetheless. I was instrumental in the success of this company, a success that led to our being bought up by the public company, Gemstar-TV Guide International. |

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

1996-1997 |
|
FIREFLY CREATIONS As director, I oversaw the production of our corporate clients website development. I managed all phases: from the creation, to production, and then maintenance of these sites. Being the liaison between artists and engineers within Firefly, I bridged marketing with technical, and contributed art and code myself. I steered the quality UI on web pages that mapped into powerful database back-ends. Working directly with such companies as Oracle and Apple Computer, I successfully met a variety of challenges-managerial, diplomatic, artistic and technical in flavor as I facilitated cooperation between the competing marketing and technical departments within the client companies themselves. |

OFFICE MANAGER

|
1994-1995 |

TRANSEND CORPORATION At this email software company, I was responsible for numerous technical details. I developed Transend's first website where clients could simply download our software to improve upon the company's old habit of just physically shipping floppies. I set up the system where demo software would timeout while salable software was encrypted. Serving as both customer and technical support, I emailed and phoned clients from Wales and Australia, to Hong Kong and Russia. Language experience in German, Dutch, Japanese and French turned out to be a plus in this role. I also coordinated offsite engineering for the numerous telecommuting engineers.
CRIMSON CONSULTING GROUP, INC. Again I wore many hats in this high-tech marketing company whose clients included Oracle, Apple, and Netscape. This job required people, technical, and design skills for a range of duties. These included recruiting and contractor management, on top of SysAdmin responsibilities such as setting up corporate email and maintaining functionality of all office computers and software. I also created all of the advertising and designed, produced, and maintained the company's website. |

COMPUTER GURU/MANAGER

LEARNINGSMITH, INC. I set up and maintained the function of all the computer workstations in the Stanford, California location of this national retail store. This included installing the server and the four computer transaction stations that were connected to headquarters in Massachusetts. Keeping close contact with headquarters, there was zero down time while this system was under my care. I also set up and kept watch over the eight demonstration [4 PC and 4 Macintosh] stations for use by the patrons. Onto these workstations I installed an ever-rotating sampling of the educational software that Learningsmith sold. I acted as salesperson and also gave tech support to customers on the software they bought. After seeing how well I worked with co-workers and customers, Learningsmith asked me to adopt a management hat as well. |

MECHANICAL PACKAGING ENGINEER
|
|
1990-1992 |
|
ALLIED TELESIS, INC. I came up with a variety of ingenuities in the engineering department of this manufacturer of computer networking devices. For instance, I developed an artwork and dimensioning check system, to avoid die and artwork errors. I also implemented efficient artwork ordering system to keep all parties well informed during the development process and to ensure timely production and shipment. Another example is when I pulled the conceptual phase of overlay graphic design in-house, saving thousands in labor charges. I even presented an alternative packaging design, superseding an outside advertising agencys suggestions, and avoiding their pricey consulting fees. The marketing department also leaned on me to come up with any artistic creations they needed. |
