DECLARATION OF VALUES FOR PROVISIONS FOR
LEARNING
PREAMBLE Recognizing the diversity of the ideals, values and
cultures, we offer the following human values to reframe dialogue and open
spaces of possibility for transformation of ourselves, of the other, of our
communities, and of the world.
|
BELONGING |
We
ensure the perception of being included in diverse and multiple communities. People belong in
school, at home, in the family, and in the community. Whatever the situation
people find themselves in, they belong. In our comfort together we
rediscover what it means to be human. |
|
WELL-BEING |
We
offer an ethics of care for health in all dimensions. We are
engrossed, energized and committed to caring and being cared for in a manner
natural and accessible to all human beings. We enable groups
and individuals to think critically and question commonplace assumptions
towards the construction of an ethical ideal, a true goodness. We maintain a
caring attitude in order to repair our world, so we can live in it as best as
possible. |
|
RECIPROCITY |
We
are, ourselves, becoming and changing, in a passionate, compassionate, and
aesthetic relationship with those whose lives we wish to enhance. In the exchange
with each other, as allies in action, we disarm power and privilege. We are willing
to be disturbed and have our beliefs changed by what others think and who
others are. Reciprocity and
mutuality enable us to co-construct what it means to be a human being living
and working together to create a more ideal society through reflective
practice. We thrive in the
aesthetics of our being together. |
|
PARTICIPATION |
We
invite the participation of all into creating our possibility and defining
our opportunity through our interaction. We offer
physical spaces, social spaces, languages, means of expression, time, and
organizational systems that are open and somewhat indefinite. School is a form
of community life. We hold the
solutions to the problems we face. We have a
vocation, a calling, to be fully human, and we humans want to be together. |
|
JOY |
We
playfully open up and take in to experience our relatedness. We cultivate and
cherish spontaneity, laughter, wonder, curiosity, vibrancy and energy. We feel joy in
relation to persons, living things, and ideas that encourages growth in an
ethical ideal. Joy arises in
being reflective of our condition enabling us to discover something deeper
about our fundamental reality. Joy is the
emotional expression of the courageous yes to one's own true being. |
|
WHOLENESS |
We
conceive others, young and old, as whole, capable human beings, connected to
others. Humans are an
indefinite, integrated complexity, with bodies, minds, emotions, creativity,
history, cultures and identity. People are not
bearing needs, nor are they immature or incomplete. Those we
encounter, their families, and members of their communities are competent. |
|
TRUST |
We
listen carefully to discover the ways of being of others, as we stay truthful
ourselves. What others
choose to do is how they are today, in this here and now; it says nothing of
the future. We maintain our
faith and love in human goodness, unconditionally. We listen. We invite others
to step forward expecting to experience their goodness. Responsibility
emerges through trust. |
