Cozumel Hurricane


At this hour, residents and visitors to Cozumel and Cancùn are going to be experiencing Hurricane Emily. Hopefully, neither life, property or the reefs will be damaged.

This might not be accurate in a few days, but.... here is the current infrared loop.

Last set posted


Well, I finally got the last set of my Turks and Caicos pictures posted.




I may go back and clean up some now that I actually can identify coral and sponges, but for now, all the pictures are up. My friend Kim has linked to my blog from his, he always writes funny things. My latest pictures are here.

New Dive ID Book and New Pictures


Mom got me a really cool set of fish, coral and creature ID books for my birthday. I've used them to help ID even more fish and stuff on my latest batch of dive photos. I also posted the previous days set too. Only one more set to go.

Some more pictures


Another day, another set. This time, I am using Photoshop's levels and colors to improve the underwater pictures. Works pretty well. Also, note that I got my little script that tags all the photos with the depths that I downloaded off my dive computer.

USB Interface for Dive Computer


I got one of these for my Dive computer, which lets me download my dive information from my dive computer to my pc. The process to get the info to my mac is a little painful (screen grab, paste into photoshop, crop, copy to mac, drag to iPhoto, upload to web), but the results are cool. Those are my profiles from my last dive trip to Cozumel . Now I have to somehow correlate the time from my photos with the depth and add that as EXIF data to my pictures.

Shark at Monterey Bay Aquarium (update)


OK, its not really diving, but Monterey Bay Aquarium has a 4' white shark in their outer bay tank. Its the only white shark in captivity, and it seems to be doing ok. Check out this video from my camera. Sorry its so dark, they don't like lights!

New Dive Camera


I just ordered from Amazon the Canon A80 camera and case shown in these pictures. Now I just need to order the AD Mount Base and I'll be able to use my current strobe with my new camera.

The A80, while larger than my s230, but should allow me better control because it supports manual modes. Now to plan the next dive trip...
