November 1, 2009 - As promised, the DVD is no longer available. Gone. Bye-Bye. After-life kids. Don't fret, the downloadable version will be available for some time. Now, if you're some Hollywood producer who needs a DVD copy, email me and I'll see what we can do. |
August 7, 2009 - So here's the deal. We're going to stop making DVD's soon and just have the iPod version available to download. Why? Well, it's been available to purchase since May of 2007 and that's a long time to keep printing out DVD's. So as of November 1, 2009, the movie will only be available as a download. That gives it 2.5 years in print and if you've got a copy, consider it a collector's item! |
June 7, 2009 - Sorry for the lack of updates, but where there is nothing to add, there's nothing to post. However, we didn't have any DVD's for awhile but that has been fixed. So if you're looking to buy a copy of the movie, head on over to the purchase page! You can also get a version to watch on your computer at the same page. |
August 17, 2008 - A very small update to the site. Hardly worth mentioning, really. But it's something I should have done from day one - Added a synopsis of the mvoie. Duh. Not much else to report. DVD's are going out. If you've seen it and haven't sent in a review, we'd love to hear from you! Good or bad, it's the only way we're gonna learn. |
May 24, 2008 - Not much to report on the movie front. Added some really cool new images and products to the Fanboy store that I thought I'd share. Just click on the shield below to be taken there!
April 23, 2008 - Looks like the fine people at the NewFilmakers film screening series were gracious enough to show Fanboy on July 2, 2008! We couldn't be happier that the great people of New York are going to get their chance to see our little film. We are going to try and be there for the big event so we're really looking forward to this. Here's the info in case you don't feel like clicking. |
March 30, 2008 - I am a total dumass. I've had the blooper reel available to download for awhile now, but I completely forgot to update the download page with the links. Guess that would help, wouldn't it? So it's up now and ready to view. Enjoy! |
March 26, 2008 - So I'm going to go on a little rant. It's not even a rant, just a statement. There has been some confusion regarding our film and another film which is getting a lot of attention. The other being Fanboys. Both have been in the works for a long time and both deal with comic book fans and we have the word "fanboy" in the title. However, that's where the similarities end. Fanboys is a film that I've actually been looking forward to seeing (and the uncut/cancer story - not the Star Wars fans are geeks storyline) for a long time. I've got a lot of respect for them and what they were able to do and I wish them all the success in the world. |
March 12, 2008 - We received our interview from Dan over at "IndieFlix" and it looks great! We get to talk with Dan about how CHP came about, how Fanboy came about, AND you get to see some footage of the movie! And it's a free download! So if you're looking to see what Fanboy and us are like, you'll get a taste of that if you watch the video.
We also can't thank Dan Monroe and everyone over at "IndieFlix" for the free publicity. If you're a film maker in Cleveland, these are the guys to talk to. Not only do they know their stuff, but they were hellova nice guys to boot. ![]() |
February 22, 2008 - So out of the blue we get an email from Dan Monroe at Cox Communications. He is the host of a little cable show called "Indie Flix" that runs on their On Demand service. So we went in for an interview (which is scheduled to be broadcast on March 1st) and they will be showing Fanboy on their On Demand service! Pretty cool, even if we don't have their service. However, we are supposed to get a copy of the interview which we'll be posting here as soon as we get it. |
January 15, 2008 - So the great experiment is over and I'd have to say that it was a success! We got some great feedback and some tips and things to look out for in the next project which is exactly what we were hoping for. Overall, the feedback was positive which is always nice to hear. I'll continue to add reviews as they come in - we had about a dozen requests to review the movie so we'll announce the winner once they all come in. |
December 23, 2007 - A quick post to say that we've received some reviews and they'll be posted soon! Also added a couple of new links up top. We hope everyone has a Happy Holiday! |
December 19, 2007 - It's almost Christmas time here. Snow has fallen and it's flipping cold here in Cleveland. And we've got a present for all our fans! Well, not really a present. More of homework. CLICK HERE (link removed) to learn more! |
September 22, 2007 - Sorry about the lack of updates, folks. Been busy trying to finish our Green Lantern project (which IÕm happy to say is almost done!) and havenÕt had much to do with Fanboy. But IÕve got a very interesting update today. This is something I didnÕt think weÕd get to try, but weÕre gonna see how it goes. For a limited time, you can download the movie! Just send us a measly $4.00 through PayPal and weÕll send you a link on where to download it. Now, itÕs a big file (444 mb zip file), so itÕs gonna take some time. I have DSL and it took me a little less than an hour when I tested it. The file is in iPod format (Quicktime MP4), and now itÕll be right on your computer, iPod, or iPhone! But why stop there? As long as youÕre in a spending mood, just grab a DVD! You know you want to. I've also been trying to get the blooper video up but I've been having some issues about compression. I can't get it small enough (keep those jokes to yourselves) while keeping the quality high enough. So I haven't forgotten, it's just been a major pain in my butt. It'll get worked out. Eventually. Hopefully. |
August 15, 2007 - Look who FINALLY got onto IMDB! Yup - that's us! Slowly but surely, they are adding all of the information about the movie to their database. |
July 30, 2007 - We've survived Comic Con! What a madhouse this year. I heard that there was 138,000 people on Saturday this year. And it felt like it. "Nuts to butts" as the saying goes. One of the many highlights was getting to meet Dave Kellett of Sheldon. Besides me acting like a dork and thinking he was some assistant and not the big honcho, he was gracious enough to draw us this amazing sketch: Which is very reminiscent of the sketch that Scott Kurtz of PVP did for us back in 2005: Check back soon for those clips and the blooper reel! |
July 22, 2007 - Lots of stuff going on, only some of it revolving around "Fanboy". |
July 4, 2007 - Happy 4th of July! It's been a big one for us. We were notified today that we won 3rd place in the Romantic Comedy category at The Cleveland Indie Gathering! Not bad for our first feature. Also, to help boost sales of the DVD, I've been considering posting a couple of scenes from the movie as well as the blooper reel to give you a taste of what's on the DVD. If you think that's a good idea, drop us an email! If not, drop us an email! |
May 31, 2007 - And yet another small update. The film is being sent all over the place to different film festivals and pretty much wherever it might qualify. I also added a page for pictures from the premiere. You can see them from the link off the main page or by clicking HERE. |
May 11, 2007- And another small update today. Seems there was a problem with Paypal where it would not let you buy the DVD or iPod version. Everything's all better now! Thanks to Jeff S. for the heads up! |
May 10, 2007 - Just a quick update today. The page for buying a DVD is live and posted! You can get to it from the main page (at the top, next to the update "date") or you can just click HERE! |
May 6, 2007 - And it's over! Well, not really over. But I'll call the premiere a success! Everyone had a good time. I passed out over 30 DVD's to people (and some of them actually asked for one!). We had some minor technical problems right at the start but that was fixed really quick. Thank the maker for back-up DVD's! People laughed at the right spots - and at a few places that we didn't expect. But that was cool! I would again like to thank everyone who came out and for Cedar Lee for putting the film up on the big screen. Seeing your work up there with an audience that's enjoying it - that's better than any drug, drink, or stimulant ever invented. The page for getting your own copy of the movie will be posted in the next day or two. I want to make sure that we have a few extra copies to send out. |
May 4, 2007 - 2 days. 4 years of writing and over a year and a half's worth of pre-production, filming, and post-production and it all comes down to 2 days. Not entirely sure I'm ready for this. The movie is as perfect as we can make it. But as someone once said, "Movies are never finished, they are just abandoned." I could fine-tune it for the next 5 or 6 months and even then think that more could be done to it. Another quote comes to mind from a certain star on the Food Network, "Just walk away." So all day today I've been burning DVD's. We'll have plenty on hand at the premiere for the cast, crew, and family. I also will have some CD's with the iPod version of the movie to give out. Both of them will be available to purchase after the premiere. Oh, and that panicky feeling I mentioned a few days ago? Yeah, we're at DEFCON 3 here. I expect to hit level #1 at about 11:29am on Sunday morning. Nothing left to do now but try and relax with a little Xbox. If you see me online, stop by and say hi! |
April 29, 2007 - So the premiere is one week away. Most of the family will be there as well as almost all of our friends, some co-workers, and local film-makers. We've got more than half the seats accounted for at this point. You'd think I'd be getting nervous. And you'd be right! I won't truly whip myself into a frenzy until about Friday night. But for right now there's just the mild state of panic that's starting to set in. Side note - sending a HUGE thank you to Rory and Cliff. We took care of one last bit of filming business yesterday that had to get done. One of those moral imperative things. You'll understand when you see the movie. The page to get your own copy of the DVD is all set and ready to go live. I'll publish the link after the premiere on the main page of the site. We're working with PayPal, but you won't need an account with them to get your copy. |
April 23, 2007 - Small update today. Well, not so small. I thought that since the movie is about the premiere, the site needed a tune-up. I was never a big fan of the links off to the left and I didn't think they would fit at the top. It always bothered me but for the longest time, I couldn't think of anything better. So I was bored the other night and tried the "links at the top" look for a test spin and low and behold - they look pretty good! The DVD is almost ready for production. We're doing the commentary on Thursday and after that, all the pieces will be in place. Commentary's are always fun as we give all the dirt and details about each little shot so if you're into that sort of thing, take a listen to it. We always entertain! Speaking of the DVD - we should have plenty on hand for cast and crew and maybe even a couple to sell or give out (we haven't decided yet - maybe a special cheap price?) at the premiere. We've got a Paypal account all set up for sales. We're just waiting until the premiere to put that link up. |
April 19, 2007 - We can finally make our big announcement! The date you already knew, but now you'll get to hear where: I got the chance to preview the movie this morning (thanks Jonathan!) at the theater. After seeing it up on the big screen, the stupid grin on my face just wouldn't go away. And that was the rough cut! I couldn't be happier. Cedar Lee is known in the Cleveland area as a theater for independent films. A long time ago, in a mind-state far, far away, a group of us spent every Saturday night during the summer of 1991 catching the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Cedar Lee. So to say that the theater holds some memories is a bit of an understatement. And for me to admit for I've seen Rocky Horror means that I must be in a REALLY good mood. So back to the premiere info - I've set up a new page for all the info: |
April 12, 2007 - Do I lie? The premiere is set for May 6th! We're letting the cast and crew know the details first since the premiere location is by ticket only (we're having tickets made only to make sure we don't have too many people show up). IF there are any left over, I'll post it here and a couple other places. However, there should be no breath holding. After the premiere, we'll have the DVD for sale on this site in some fashion. More info to come soon! |
April 8, 2007 - Again with the lack of updates! Bad movie-makers! But now we've got some info! Well, sort of. We're working very hard on a premiere event. And we mean event. We already contacted a certain movie theater that claims to have the best seat in the house, but they seem to be on crack as to how much they charge for a theater rental. But we have not given up! In fact, we've got a pretty good lead on something very cool. We're shooting for early May, but keep your eyes on this site and we'll have something VERY soon. |
February 12, 2007 - Has it been that long? Yup - it's been over two months. Sorry for the lack of updates. We've had some family issues to deal with as well as a planned (and much needed) vacation. But we're back now with some updates! The Bad News - We got a letter today from the Cleveland Film Festival. And they said "No, thanks." So that just means we'll have to do something on our own! The Good News - It seems that our "Alex" has had some luck out in Hollywood! He appeared on recent episodes of "How I Met Your Mother" and "The O.C."! Keep it up, Brian! We'll be planning some kind of event very soon - so to everyone in the cast and crew - you haven't missed anything. But watch this site for upcoming news! |
December 1, 2006 - And we're back with a pretty good update! Yesterday we mailed out "Fanboy" to the Cleveland Film Festival. One of the requirements for submission was that the movie had to be complete. So, put two and two together and that means we've got a finished movie! It comes in at 1 hour, 45 minutes and it will most definitely be rated R for language. Sorry, Mom! Now about this premiere. I wanted... wait, wanted isn't the correct word. I was dying to have one in November. The movie wasn't ready yet so it got pushed back. I'd love to have one in December, but there are 2 obstacles. 1 - the Cleveland Film Festival has a rule that the movie must premiere with them. 2 - anyone who lives in Cleveland knows how temperamental the weather can be (example, today started in the 60's and they are threatening snow as I type this) so even if we planned something huge, we may get a blizzard and have to cancel the whole deal.
I'm currently getting the DVD all together. It'll have an audio commentary, blooper reel, and casting videos from our casting call (and you guys in the cast thought we forgot about those!). |
November 13, 2006 - We're still plugging away! Brett came over tonight and played us some of the original music he came up with for the movie. I can't wait for you to hear it - there's some very cool stuff in there. Scott should have the audio corrections done by the end of the week which means I get the movie back to put the final touches on. Our goal is to have a completed film by the end of the month so we can submit it to the Cleveland Film Festival. We wanted it to be sooner, but things just don't happen the way we want sometimes. We're still hoping to have a local premiere soon with the cast, crew, and family. |
October 16, 2006 - 1000 posts! Woo-Hoo!! Thanks everyone! And we've got some updates. The original music for the movie is coming along. We're going to have about 11 originals to choose from and will probably have them available at some point once the movie is done. |
October 1, 2006 - Sorry about the lack of updates. We've been busy working on the final cut for the movie. The color correction is done and the music is on its way. And we were able to submit the rough cut to a little film competition they hold every year in Park City, Utah. |
September
5, 2006 - Not much to report. Post production is well under
way. We've got lots to do and not a whole lot of time to do
it in! So it's back to work we go - no time to be messing on
the 'net! |
August
21, 2006 - The re-shoot went really well, so that's taken care of. We
did have a review of the rough cut of the movie and found lots of
things to improve on. Little things here and there that we missed
- couple of small pick-up shots not requiring actors - stuff like
that. So I figure that I've seen the movie about 10 times
now. I'm thinking that we'll have a big premiere in mid to late
October. We've also got some ideas about where and how to premiere
it. More to come on that soon enough. |
August 14, 2006 - The word for the past week has been editing. Editing, editing, editing. Out of the total 30 scenes (it was 28, but we added some stuff), I have 25 of them done. I should have a complete rough cut to show Nancy and Lucy when they come over for a re-shoot on Sunday. Yes, as in all major productions, re-shooting was necessary. Personally, I'm not a big fan, but you gotta do what you gotta do. It's only one scene and it'll look way better in the end. |
August 6, 2006 - The trailer has been received pretty well. No negative comments so far, which is good. The official poster has been called "classy" which I take as a huge compliment. The editing is coming along. I have 12 scenes put together that total 45 minutes. I'm thinking we should hit the 90 minute total running time with no problem. I uploaded the iPod and WMV versions of the trailer to the Downloads page. Enjoy! And even more website re-designs! One of these days I'll stick with something I like and not mess with it anymore. And lastly, we finally got ourselves a myspace account! Not much to see but the trailer, but that might change soon. WWW.MYSPACE.COM/CALAMITYHOUSE |
August
2, 2006 - The Trailer (Quicktime format only for now) is available
to download off the, where else, but the Downloads page! AND
the posters are... uhh... posted! We love feedback so let
us know what you think! |
July 29, 2006 - If you're reading this, then you already know there's been some site redesign going on. I've been learning a couple of new tricks and trying to see what I can do with them to make the site all nice and pretty. I also added some comments to the Cast and Crew area that you might find fun and interesting. Or not. I've also been fighting with IMDB to get them to list "Fanboy". Seems their latest excuse was that the project seems "local" and not something "global". Now, I know that this movie isn't going to erase poverty, intolerance, and ignorance in the word, but it'll probably make you smile a couple times and hopefully, make you feel like you saw something worth seeing. So I'm going to keep trying to submit it because I think it belongs there. And lastly, and most important, is that Scott is getting closer to finishing the audio work on the trailer. Should be available here to download in a week or so. |
July 24, 2006 - Things are coming along smoothly around here! The trailer is getting closer to being done - Scott has the video about done and now is touching up the audio. Shouldn't be too much longer now. And I think we finally have a tag line. It's the best we've heard so far, and if nothing else better comes along by the time the teaser is ready, we'll go with it. But, I don't think it'll get any better. It's pretty darn perfect. So what is it?! Patience, my young apprentice. All in good time. You'll see it on the posters. Hold the phone, did he say posters? As in plural? You bet your sweet arse I did. One is a kind of tribute to a movie set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. The other is a design that I've had in mind since before we even started filming. We're also going to be setting up a myspace.com page soon. They seem to be all the rage with the young folk so why not jump on the band wagon? Plus, any pimping is good pimping, right? Right. |
July 15, 2006 - The trailer is cut! It still needs some work in the audio and color correction department, but the shots are chosen and the music is in place. I hope to have that up in about a week or so. On top of QT and WMV format, we're also going for the ever popular iPod size, too. I also did an update to the Cast Photos page (now called the Cast & Crew page) - you can see the complete listing of everyone involved, cast & crew! And yes, there's a whole mess of Tomaselli's involved in this. Well, you can't make a movie of this size, with this budget, and not bring in family! |
July 12, 2006 - The entire movie is finally imported into the computer (trust me - that's a HUGE milestone). I've already started editing scenes but I still have a long way to go. But now that it's all ready to be sliced and diced, progress will be much quicker. So quick that I can predict that the trailer for "Fanboy" will be available to view by the end of the month. It'll be about 1 minute long and in Quicktime and Windows Media format. Even bigger news, we've got music! Thanks to my co-director Scott, he found a nice little source of royalty free music that we can use to our hearts content. And it's good stuff! We had a couple people submit music samples to us that sounded like 80's video games. Not exactly the sound that we're looking for. But that's not going to be a problem. Now, we're still going to use some original music, but we just don't have to fill the entire thing with it. That's about it for now. I think I'll have a drink (or 4) to celebrate all the footage being in one place. I told you it was important! |
July
3, 2006 - Our new website address is WWW.FANBOYTHEMOVIE.COM! Pass
it on! |
July 2, 2006 - At approximately 10:45 am this morning, "Fanboy" finished principle shooting! I couldn't have asked for a better ending to this portion of the project. Most of my family was there as extras, and those that weren't on screen were around just to be there for the moment. In true Peter Jackson style, we filmed the very last shot of three men walking into a bar (and no, that's not a set up to a joke) many times. The cast just didn't want it to end, which to me, means "mission accomplished". I did get a little emotional the last time I called "cut". More so than I thought I would. I'd like to send a special thank you to my family for coming out and being there for me - especially at 8am on a Sunday morning. I'd like to thank Mike Kelly, owner of The Dog House Bar & Grill, for letting us come in and use his fantastic bar for the setting of our last scene. I'd like to thank - you'd think I was at some award show with music playing in the background telling me to "WRAP IT UP!" - all the extras for coming out and being a part of "Fanboy". Also have to send a huge thank you to my fantastic cast. Also going to thank my co-director, Scott. And to my wife, my assistant director, my co-producer, and the inspiration for "Fanboy", Audra - well, let's just say that I'll thank you personally. Now on to the editing part! Updates probably won't be as frequent from here on in. But please keep watching this site as well as the CHP main site for updates on this and other projects. |
June 25, 2006 - I can honestly say that this weekend was a blur. But in a good way!
June 18, 2006 - We're in the home stretch now! With only 4 more filming dates, we finally got our last location reserved and locked in and I couldn't be happier. It was the one location we knew we would have difficulty finding from the moment we decided to film "Fanboy", but we finally got it. And it's a huge load off of my mind. We filmed again at Value Video today - again, thank you so much for letting us in! By some stroke of luck, we'll be filming on this Wednesday the 21st. And we'll be filming all day. Which is good, because it will get us caught up and right back on schedule. Tomorrow we speak to our music department. Once we get some music, I can get the trailer out there for everyone to see. And along the same lines, the first poster is about 2/3 done. Needs a good tag line and a couple "tweaks" here and there and we're good to go.
June 11, 2006 - Where has the time gone? Filming is going great! we've got 19 out of 30 scenes filmed. Editing is underway and everything is looking really good so far. This weekend was another huge filming weekend. We got to film the scenes we didn't get to on 5/23. We filmed until 1am on 6/10 and then started again at 10am this morning. Special thanks go to Value Video for letting us get in there before they opened today (and again next weekend) and film at their store. If you're in the area, we highly recommend stopping in! And on a sad note, Alina Raulinaitis wasn't able to film with us this weekend as planned. But, we were lucky enough for Gina to bring a friend who was able to help us out at the last minute. Thanks, Linsday! And I don't want to forget Joanna who had a great little scene with our "Leroy". All of the girls did a fantastic job today! Thank you! And on a personal note, I'd like to thank Cliff who drove up from Columbus to finish all his scenes this weekend. Cliff, if your friendship and trust fell into a box of knives, both would come out without a scratch. We've got one more location to nail down. We have a backup location but only as a last resort. I'm hoping to lock that down by the end of the week. And Tom, you may have had the shortest line in the whole movie, but it was delivered perfectly! That's it for this week! Tune in next time while I thank everyone in the whole world and the horse they rode in on!
May 23, 2006 - Sorry I'm late with this week's update. Been busy around here with filming and everything else that I just forgot! Sunday's filming was fantastic! Holly, Megan, and Shelia all came out to film a quick scene - thank you again, ladies! - and Brian and Bryan put on another fabulous performance. We didn't get to all the scenes we wanted to, but the scenes that we did film turned out great. To make up for it, we had Brian come over tonight to film a quick scene as well as some voice over work. Special thanks go to York Comics & Cards for the loaning of a few props for a scene we filmed on Sunday. Thanks guys! Next weekend - No filming! Yeah, we're taking a bit of a break. We've been going non-stop since early April and we need a little break. We pick up filming on June 4 where we get to film at the local comic show put on by Jeff Harper Productions! I've also been redesigning the website a bit - making small changes here and there. I added a links page for friends of the productions as well as influential sites that ... well, influenced the film. Check 'em out!
May 14, 2006 - Another great filming day is behind us. We were able to film all of the office location shots in about 3 hours. I was a little worried, but we were able to get it done and only run over our schedule by 10 minutes! Some new pictures were posted from our filming today. Special thanks to the Tomaselli Clan for being extras and for working on Mother's Day! Also, thanks again go to Jim Gabler for letting us use his office for our filming. He let us film there for our GL project so he gets a seat right up close for the premiere - wherever that may be. We've also got 8.5 scenes out of 30 filmed, and 2 of those are edited. They need some audio and video tweaking, but for the most part they're done. Oh, and they need music. Sweet sweet music. We've got some leads on some bands, but if you know of anyone who does ORIGINAL music, have them contact us!
May 07, 2006 - As promised, May is shaping up to be a productive month. Today we had an awesome filming session with Lucy and Nancy. We got one of their main scenes done as well as a very emotional one behind us. We've put up some new photos over on the pictures page from today. And we've also got ourselves a bona-fide P.A. - Matt Vale. He's earning some school credit while helping out while we get someone to use and abuse, so everyone's happy!
April 28, 2006 - Some big news tonight! We haven't had any more filming since the 9th, but we've been working hard behind the scenes since then. May is going to be a HUGE filming month. We're going to be filming every weekend except Memorial Day (we've gotta take a break sometime!) and plans are even scheduled for June. If all goes according to plan, we should be finished with filming by the end of June. Which brings me to my huge news - one of the opening scenes takes place at a comic book convention and Jeff Harper Productions is going to let us film at their convention on June 4th! More news to come soon as we are wrapping up filming our Green Lantern project this weekend!

April 10, 2006 - Yesterday was our first day of filming and we got all of the interior scenes finished for Ground Zero! It was a long day, and everyone did a great job. Scott and Audra kept everything organized and orderly without rushing the shots. Meanwhile, I was nursing one hell of a cold (still am) so I was pretty much along for the ride. And no one got hurt! Well, we did have a slight pants malfunction with the threat of testicular release, but thankfully everything was contained and no one was harmed. All of the actors did a great job and I want to thank everyone for giving the project a perfect start!

March 25, 2006 - We've got our first filming date! April 9th we film a pretty important scene, and it's probably the first one that was written, so I'm very excited about it. We also might be filming on April 2nd, so keep your fingers crossed for that. We've had a couple of rehearsals so far, and everyone is doing a fantastic job. Everyone is very professional, but we're still having a great time working. Let's film!
