66 Convertible Trunk Restoration
This shows the restoration of my 66 convertible trunk compartment, including the installation of a concourse correct early (pre-November 1965) 66 Burtex trunk kit.

   

Old replacement vinyl kit. Typical peeling and sagging.
Old Vinyl Kit_2. Wrong pattern for early '66 car.
Underneath the old replacement vinyl kit. Shingles used for sound deadener.
Shingles and original sound deadener melted from leaking trans/top fluid.
Shingle removed and old sound deadener scraped off.
Wring harness cleaned and rewrapped. Hoses cleaned.
Old paint cleaned with laquer thinner and given two coats of red oxide primer.
First coat of Candy Apple Rde paint applied.
Second Coat of Candy Apple Red paint applied, Wires and folding trunk mechanism still masked.
Paint done and wiring reclamped in proper position.
New boards were trimmed, scored and bent using old boards as a pattern.
Fuel tube cover refinished and reinstalled.
Foil muffler heat insulation installed per original factory installation.
Sound Deadener installed over heat insulation. Formed with heat gun.
Front panel sound deadener cut-to-fit using cardboard pattern.
Sound deadener installed, using heat gun to form contours.
Rear fender well sound deadener installed in proper postion.
Sound deadener installation complete. The white backing can be peeled off.
Trim & fit of the fuel tube cover burtex. 3M Super Trim adhesive used.
Burtex on fuel tube cover, rear wheel cover, fuel filler "box".
Jack cover flap being installed with screws at top of panel.
Bottom and side burtex panels being trimmed to fit in place.
Finished Trunk with top in the trunk. Burtex flap lays on top of top pump, relays, and solenoids.
Burtex flap pulled back for pump and relay access.
Top mechanism components refinished/repainted.
