Making maple syrup a.k.a. Tree Pee with Paul & Carolyn Giles at Buck Lake March 2008

We found buckets right beside our driveway when we arrived! Early morning visitor! The Momma's stamping to warn the babies! Paul teaching the kids how to empty the sap buckets Collecting sap with Paul & Carolyn Pouring our booty into the evaporator Hanging out at the Tree Pee shack! Great name...LOL Heading out on the ATV to collect more sap Del on the ATV excited to go! Yes that would be Mae driving...EEK! Poor Oscar trying to keep up! Del checking out some buckets. Pouring sap into the collection buckets Carolyn giving Mae a hand Mae finding sap! Pouring into the ATV Poor frozen sap!! Later that day Paul showed Mae & Kristina how to drill and tap trees Mae hammering in a tap The evaporator full of frozen sap blocks! Paul firing up the propane boiler to make the kids a small batch of syrup Boil...boil...boil... OK so the boiling is a bit boring...LOL Mae patiently waiting with Comet keeping her company Almost done...watching the thermometer carefully... Woo hoo, it's ready! Paul pours the boiling syrup into filters Mae watches Paul There it goes! Pouring through the filters The kids get to lick out the boiling pot...Yummmmm!
