"The Long Night"

A man with a dragon's head is
leading a Marie Antoinette
across the piazza
three floors below
The jongleurs and jesters are
leading the musicians
down the next street
where the river does flow

I stand on this broken balcony
a glass of white wine in my hand
It's good for the heart you understand

People, you gotta take care of yourself
Yes, dear friends take care of your health
Ignore me if I am wrong
for soon the long night comes along
and all that remains is a song

The long night
They don't tell you about it in school
The long night
Isn't ever advertised on TV
I've been there an I tell you beware
of the other side of mystery

Shadows separate from the light
in ever expanding accordians so dark
Oh Lord, if you hear me now tonight
send to me the lark

I remember the day she said to me
she had other things to do

And the wooden wagon broke down on the bridge
Thought I wouldn't mind so I found an apothecary
and fell asleep to awaken with my head over the edge

The new saints of the corporate army
demanded I give them all my gold
but without even a hand to hold

I cursed them to oblivion
To the hell from whence they'd come
Ignore me if I am wrong
for soon the long night comes along
and all that remains is a song

The long night
in the filthy dungeon o the king
The long night
when both train and trolley have run off the track

When your lover says to you
Goodbye and don't come back

It's raining on Jericho boulevard
Never knew the raindrops to fall so hard
I've got nowhere to go and nothing to begin
The police drive by and I'm soaked to the skin

Do you know how it feels to be lonely?
Is heartbreak just another word to you?
If that's so you'll never know is anything I say is true

Have you ever felt you was so tired
You thought you could almost lay right down and die?
"Cause no one could every know
the pain and the sorrow
of the tears you cry

They got a name for that you know
A place where the broken hearted go
Where, at the end of the show
nothing turns out right
some call this place "Despair"
I call it "The long night"

The long night
When no-one cares if you live or die
The long night
and nobody hears the tears you cry
When all that may seem
is no more then a dream
and no one is around to tell you why

Farewell to you my own true love
Farewell oh love of my own
A love unloved must be travelling on
Look for me in the morning and I'll be gone.
