Squinting

I'm forty. Yes, I admit it. I'm also severely nearsighted. Have been since I was 12. Last time I went to the opthamologist, he commented that the calendar was catching up with me. He did not go so far as to mention the dreaded bifocal word, but he sort of suggested that the day was coming.

I fear the day may be here.

Spent a good hunk of yesterday driving and came home with a headache. I spend most of my regular day looking at computer screens (and, I admit, squinting or at least leaning close). By the time I got home, I was cranky and snippy. The kid and I were home for an hour or so, then we went out to see Constantine. The movie itself didn't bother me, but the pre-preview ads did. I kept asking the kid if things were out of focus. She (fifteen and on her first glasses prescription) looked at me like I'd dropped my marbles in the parking lot. Last night I could barely read.

It might be simply eye strain, I've been putting in some long days lately, but I've noticed over the past few weeks that my vision has gotten flaky. Like my lenses are smeared even tho they're not. I've developed a squint-line between my eyes - oh, yippee! another wrinkle! how thrilling!! - and, honestly, I'm not seeing as well as I should.

I probably need those @#!*$& bifocals.

Sigh. How we're gonna afford this, I have no idea.
