Player Character Equipments

Discussion for Player Character Equipments.

Samples of PC Equipments

My ideas for equipments usually PCs have.  In order to shorten times for character creation, I made some lists of typical PC's equipments.

PHB Character

The initial items PHB characters have.  Player shall buy weapons and armors, class-dependent items such as thieves tools.

Example 1

Additional items are on the lists.  If a character has STR of 12 or so, the character can carry all items on the list without encumblance penalty.

Example 2

Case for a character wearing no/light armor.
Example: a wizard of STR 8, a ranger of Str14 wearing chainmail.  If the load of backpack is required to be lighter, move rations and waterskin to saddleback.

Considering the carrying ability of horses (PHB p.143):
Human (about 200lbs) + Items 11lbs + Armor 20-25lbs + Weapons 10-15lbs + Shield 5lb + Items on the horse 83lbs = 334lbs.  Warhorse (Light) can keep 4miles/hrs, 32miles/day, if within the limit of 400lbs.

Example 3

Case for Heavy Armor:
If a character wears heavy armor, two horses are required; one for riging, and one for equipments.

Item GPs for Player Character

Discussion about the total money for ready-made player characters.
Though DMG gives us some guidance, the supplements Enemies and Allies says,
Player characters, as discussed in Chaper 2 of DMG, simply have "more stuff" than NPC.
It means that ready-made player characters should have more items than NPC on DMG.

I made a simple discussion using an iconic Fighter "Redger" on Enemies and Allies.

This is a graph that shows how a character use money for items.
The DMG Fighter uses a bastard sword/large shield, but Regder uses a greatsword.  This makes the DMG fighter use more money than Redger.
