Save Images

Displayed images can be saved in following image formats:

tiff, pdf, jpg, png, bmp, gif, eps, JPEG2000, jbig(bie), pnm, or xbm.

Images in gif format have at most 256 colors (transparency is counted in). If you try to save an image that has more than 256 colors as a gif image, the color reduction routine is activated automatically. Images that can be saved in jbig(bie) or in xbm format should be monochrome bilevel images.

To save an image, select "File / Save..." of the menu. An example of the save panel is below (for jpg). You can change the image format by clicking the buttons on the panel, e.g., tiff, png, etc. You can also specify an image format directly with the submenu of "Export".

You can specify various options on the save panel. The sort of the options depends on the file type (See Image Formats).

Open new file soon

As JPG and JPEG2000(j2k) use lossy compression, the quality of newly created files may be worse. If the button "Open new file soon" is checked, new files are opened by ToyViewer just after saving. You can see the actual quality of the image and the file size soon.

Not to Save Exif Information

Pictures you took using a digital camera would have some information, e.g., the date and the place where the pictures were taken, the model of the camera, etc. You can also append a short string as a comment or a memo. Images in JPEG or TIFF keep such information even if they are saved as other image files. In PNG, the date and the comment are saved. That would not be desirable, however, especially when you want to use the picture on your web site.

In order not to save such information, check the button "Simple file" on the save panel. This button is placed on the save panel for JPG, TIFF, and PNG.

Custom Icon

ToyViewer can make and attach a custom icon to a file.

Note that the size of the file increases because a custom icon needs 40 - 60 KBytes.

ToyViewer's custom icon functions are not implemented currently for DOS formatted volumes.

Attach Icon to Newly Saved File

When you save an image into new file, check the button "Make Custom Icon (Thumbnail)" on the save panel in order to attach an icon.

If no area is selected on the image, the whole image is shrunk to make an icon. If there is a selected area, it is used to make an icon.

If the image for custom icon has transparent color, the icon image would have transparent part as well. In the figure below, "jellyheart.tiff" and "junk" have transparent parts.

Attach Icon to Selected Files

ToyViewer can make a custom icon from a displayed image and then can attach it to existing files.

First, display an image, and select area if needed. Then, Click "File / Attach Custom Icon..." of the menu to show an open panel. Select files to which you want to attach a custom icon. You can select more than one files, or directories.

If the target of custom icon is a folder, you can put a small triangle on the icon as a mark of folder. To put the mark on the icon, check "Attach folder mark" button on the panel. In the figure above, "junk" has the mark.

Remove Custom Icon

ToyViewer can remove attached custom icons from files.

Click "File / Remove Custom Icon..." of the menu to show an open panel. Select files from which you want to remove custom icons. You can select more than one files.
