Take-apart instruction Powerbook G3 Pismo (400-500 MHz with firewire)
For disassembly, you'll need a regular, a small philips and a torx-8 screwdriver. I'm also selling these parts, see www.apfelklinik.de for details.

1. Unlock the keyboard (1) and pull 2+3 towards you. Empty both module bays.
2. Touch the metal surface to get rid of static electricity. Remove the screws.
3. Unplug the backup battery. To replace it, pull it to the left as shown.
4. Use the tab to remove the processor card. Replace RAM if necessary.
5. Pull on the tab to release the hard disk.
6. Now disconnect the cable.
7. If you wish to replace the hard disk: do not pull at the ribbon cable!
8. Remove the 4 torx-8 screws and don't forget to remove the black plastic stripe!
9. Removing the keyboard is just about the easiest part.
10. Remove the two modem screws and lever it from its connector.
11. Hold the clutch cover like this and pull firmly up. Repeat on the left.
12. If you intend to open the bottom case, unplug the trackpad cable.
13. Unplug the display cable on the left and remove the long screws 1-5 and 6-8.
14. Tilt the inverter board carefully towards you - DO NOT bend it.
15. Disengage the hook on the left, pull to left to clear the right hook from its slot and unplug the display cable.
16. Now remove the four screws on the back securing the display.
17. Pull the display straight up. Do not change the position of the clutches.
18. Turn the Pismo over and remove all seven screws. Long screws belong to 6 + 7
19. Unplug the airport module cable ...
20. ... as well as the tab (1) and cables 2 + 3 (blue is power, red is sound)
21. There's another nasty tab on the right.
22. You can remove the Power Supply card now.
23. Remove the two screws holding the metal cage ...
24. ... then disconnect the modem cable. DO NOT PULL at the cable.
25. Gently unhook the metal foil at the yellow spots.
26. If needed, remove the small board with the modem filter.
27. Gently push in the audio ports a little, then pull sound card straight up.
28. If you wish to replace the I/O board, remove screw (1) and spring (2).
29. Remove screw (1), the fan (2) and the 5mm nut (3).
30. Pull the I/O board up (it's a bit sticky). DO NOT use the narrow part as a handle!
31. You can slide the modem port from the I/O board now.
32. To replace the pc-card cage, remove 1-4 on the bottom of the I/O board.
33. DO NOT PULL at the pc-card cage, lever it from the board instead.
34. Oh yeah, and finally remove the very sticky fan.
