Powerbook G4 Titanium take-apart & repair instructions
You'll need a regular screwdriver, a Philips PH1, a torx-8 and a torx-6 for the rib cage and display. I'm also selling most parts, please get in touch

1. This is the only Titanium with no ventilation slits in the panel door.
2. Disconnect the power cord and remove the battery.
3. Unlock the keyboard locking screw and pull the release tabs towards you.
4. Flip over the keyboard and lay it on the palm rests and trackpad.
5. Touch the inside framework to discharge static electricity.
6. Disconnect the keyboard connector cable from the logic board.
7. Spread the brackets apart until the upper memory card releases on each side.
8. Pull the card up and out.
9. After removing the upper memory card, you can access the lower slot.
10. To remove the modem card, pull the small metal disc away.
11. Remove the 5mm hexnut screw. Use a pair of tongs if necessary.
12. Lever the right side of the modem board like this.
13. Guide the right front corner up and right.
14. Then rotate it in a clockwise motion.
15. Disconnect the modem connector cable.
16. Remember: PH1 driver GOOD, PH0 driver BAD.
17. Open display to let it hang over the edge of the table, place keyboard on a towel.
18. After removing the 8 bottom philips screws, push a bit like this.
19. When the left and right sides have released, pull up on the bottom case.
20. Touch inside framework to discharge static electricity. Release antenna cable.
21. Firmly pull the card from the Airport connector.
22. Carefully pry up the hard drive connector at its sides.
23. Remove the two torx-8 screws that secure the hard drive.
24. Pull up the hard drive, do NOT use the connector cable as a handle.
25. Remember to remove the screws and rubber stops.
26. Again, do not pull at the cable. Lever it out like this.
27. Now for the DVD-ROM: Carefully pry up the DVD drive connector at its sides.
28. Pull up on the DVD drive.
29. There's this nasty adhesive dust cover on the back.
30. Start at the corner to slowly peel it off. Do not use conductive tools.
31. Remember where the flat and half-moon shaped rubber stops belong.
32. Peel away the Kapton tape from the Power Management Unit (PMU).
33. Disconnect the ribbon cables on the right.
34. When reassembling, route the cable at an 90-degree angle.
35. Raise the metal clip out of the hole in the PMU card.
36. Pivot the card clockwise to release it.
37. To remove the PRAM backup battery, skip 35+36. Pry up the battery.
38. If there is any residual adhesive left, rub it away. Do not use solvents.
39. To exchange the I/O board remove this screw and the battery connector.
40. The battery connector may be very tight and might come off in one piece.
41. If that's the case, pry the connector up like this.
42. And push the rest back in so it looks like this.
43. Disconnect the three-pin fan connector.
44. Remove the small metal EMI clip. It's easiest to move it a bit to the left.
45. Warning: these cables are very delicate. Do NOT pull or pinch them!!!
46. Instead, pry a bit on the left and right of each connector like this.
47. Now remove the two identical torx-8 screws in the center of this view.
48. Disconnect the copper DVD drive connector and the Power connector on the right.
49. Grasp the logic board neat the Airport Card carrier. Gently tilt it up.
50. If necessary, open the panel door and press on the ports.
51. Before you continue, place a sheet of paper between the display and the top case.
52. Remove the longer screw on the right and the shorter on the left.
53. If you need to remove the rib frame, start with screws 1-4.
54. Now remove the 4 identical torx-6 screws on the back.
55. Remove the four identical black screws.
56. Make sure the heatsink does not fall onto the display.
57. To remove the inverter board, start with the screws on the clutch cover.
58. Just pull the clutch cover away like this.
59. Remove the 2 silver-colored screws, do not remove the black screws.
60. Remove the Kapton tape without straining the inverter cable.
61. Disconnect the inverter cable from the inverter board.
62. Lift the inner clutch mount out of the way.
63. Tilt up the inverter board and disconnect the PMU cable.
64. If you intend to remove the display, guide the inverter cable out like this.
65. Remove clutch cover and silver screws on other side (leave black screws in place).
66. Again, lift the inner clutch cover out of the way,
67. Carefully guide the blue and white cables trough the hole.
68. Push thick cable a bit in and guide its connector sideways through the hole.
69. Yes, it's possible to open the display. Start with the 4 torx-6 screws.
70. As everything is glued together, apply some force to the center of the case.
71. Now lever the case away starting below the clutch (push away from the LCD).
72. Continue above the clutch - again, push away from the LCD!
73. Work your way along the edge by levering the case away every inch or so.
74. Continue below the metal hinge. Try not to bend the thin metal strip.
75. Now wiggle a bit at the hinge and pull it straight out.
76. To reassemble, use rubber cement, fix the case and let it dry for 24 hrs.
77. To remove the data cable, do not release the top edge with the latch.
