KORG WAVESTATION SR is the 1U rackmount version of WAVESTATION series.
KORG WAVESTATION SR (1992)
4MB ROM, expandable with 2MB PCM card compatible with 01/W.
These .mp3s are my first experiment with WAVESTATION SR. Only one or two oscillators are used with simple settings.
The demos are recorded without any effects, internal or external.
Resonant wave (354KB)
WAVESTATION is the first model of the series with 2MB ROM. Later WAVESTATION EX came out with 4MB ROM. WAVESTATION A/D is the 2U rackmount version with A/D input for oscillator.
The series can be seen as the successor of Sequential Circuits Prophet VS. YAMAHA bought Sequential in 1987, and took the vector feature into making KORG WAVESTATION and YAMAHA SY22 / TG33.
WAVESTATION's synthesis engine is based on KORG's ai2 synthesizers. 01/W used the same synthesis chip, though used in a different way. While 01/W has no wavesequence, it has Waveshaping. Other ai2 synths (03R/W, 05R/W, AG-10) sounds alike.

The wave-chaining feature may date back to PPG WAVE and Roland D-50 / D-110. Ensoniq VFX was the competitor of WAVESTATION, as it can do both Jam-loops and Wavetables.
Recently KORG made the softsynth version with added resonant filter in their Legacy Collection.
