AKAI SG01v
Overview
GM-based Sound Generator
SG01v is a GM-based PCM synthesizer. The specs are;
6MB ROM contains 'vintage' sounds that includes
the name of Moog, Prophet, Oberheim, PPG, D6, JUNO, JX, and DX.
In spite of the name and the large ROM size, the sounds are rather simple and conservative to me.
32 polyphonic, basically.
It seems that all programs are made with one oscillator - not layered.
The filter is said to be 4-pole (but I'm not sure).
It seems to have 2 modes: LPF and BPF.
LFO modulates pitch and filter.
Reverb effect: when used, it eats 2 polyphony.
There are 30 variations but the reverb time is very short.
Mono Legato is used in many basses and leads.
Users can't alter the preset Poly/Mono setting - a mono lead is always a mono lead.
Key Parameter Editing System
SG01 Series has only 3 synthetic parameters to edit from the front panel.
This simplified interface is called Key Parameter Editing System.
The parameters are:
SHAPE controls EG rates.
TONE mainly controls filter cutoff.
SPECIAL controls resonance (or other preset parameter).
What parameter is being controlled is not shown in the manual.
You need to hear the difference by trial and error.
FX Level and Fine Tune are also editable from the front panel.
Using MIDI messages, other parameters can be edited;
